Default Can 4500 be used in Australia?

I know that this is a strange question, but I've really never had to travel out of country, so I've never had the need to know this before. I just found out yesterday that I may have to travel to Australia for my job for a week, maybe two.

Will the LG 4500 be functional in Australia? And does Verizon offer any service, or how would I go about setting up temporary service while I'm there? Is that even possible? Or should I just make calls home from the hotel landline instead?

It's not imperative that I be able to use it in Australia, but it would be nice, if it's not going to cost me an arm and a leg to do it.

If anyone knows, any and all replies would be appreciated!

I don't know if the 4500 would work or not, but Verizon does phone rental for international travel. Verizon international
You could also probably pick up a world band GSM phone (900/1800) and just buy a prepaid SIM card when you get there, or you could pickup a calling card and use it from the hotel.

Thanks for that link! Wowee!!!! I think I'll pass. $300 deposit and $1.49 a minute for calls. I don't need to call home that bad, and can probably get something set up temporarily with my long distance company (or couldn't I buy an international calling card somewhere?)

I've got about six weeks to get my game plan in action, thanks for your help!

You can pickup LD calling cards just about anywhere. Most of those cards can be used to dial internationally. The prepaid AT&T calling card comes to mind. Using one of those cards is a lot less then $1.49 a minute. Here's a link for calling card rates. I've used calling cards before, it worked pretty well for dialing LD in the US, I don't know how it would work for international dialing but I would guess it would work the same.

For just a few weeks, probably not worth looking into a cell phone solution. A calling card or two, and you should be good to go.

I am going to be in San Juan PR in April for a week, but it looks like PR is included in Verizon's America's Choice network...

CWICK -- I used my VZW in Puerto Rico a few weeks ago and it worked great. The roaming light was flashing (I had a Moto v60i at the time), not solid which is supposed to mean you are still on the AC coverage. I will let you know when my bill comes in if I have any 'extra' charges.

Cwick, you know what would be real funny is if you hopped on a taxi and the driver was that same one with the Slider, remember that one?
