Default VX4400 firmware ver. 10 available

The VZW tech flashed both my phone and my girlfriend's to ver. 10 today... the only difference I have noticed so far is 1x over GIN. The tech didn't have any release notes for this version, so does anyone else know what is new?

Default VX4400 firmware ver. 10 available

I just switched to Verizon this morning, and bought a VX4400 (this was at a Verizon store in NYC -- 21st? St. & 5th Ave). Much to my shock, it seems to have v10 (we are talking the last two digits, right?). I'm curious to know what's changed too.

Version 10 allows the phones to utilize the 1x for Get it now apps and downloading and there's also a technical fix for issues with LG phones not being able to port without the latest updates on all Verizon LG phones across the board...

The matrix hasn't updated to let us know the specific contents of the update, but it has helped two of my co-workers phones as far as reception goes and it's as strong as my Samsung is with reception now because of the update.

Beatnik, if you can, let us know what the updated matrix info tells you about this release when you get the info. Thanks!

i'm still on v04 and am still hesitant to upgrade...while i've heard both good and bad points about software upgrades, i still can't justify upgrading without knowing what is going to change. if it ain't broke, don't fix it...

it would help alot to see release notes/revisions/fixes to different s/w versions but apparently this is asking too much...

i agree, here's what i posted on "questionable upgrades"

you know it makes you wonder why you have techs that have no idea what the new software will do for your phone, which also brings up the question, are they the ones not flashing your phone properly? maybe a Verizon representative can give us a reason why they would do a software upgrade without having any idea or clue on what it's supposed to fix. there was somebody that posted claimimg to be be a Verizon employee, and he may very well be, but said that there was no letter or memo on what the new software for the lgvx4400 was supposed to do for the phone, i don't know but that's just makes me bring up all these questions. all you that have upgraded your phone to the new software feel free to post your opinions or problems you're having with the new software.

we have Beatnick telling us that he just flashed phones here and there but can't give us a straight answer on what the upgrade does, which also makes me wonder if he really is a Verizon tech, no offence intended.

...you've made me wonder, djtonye... why can't we ever just get a Verizon tech that will answer our questions straight-forward? It seems that they are either TOO SCARED to post on here (albeit semi-anonymously) or do not have any info that we consumers have (which I think is CRAZY). All I know is, if I was a Verizon employee and had access to info that consumers did not, I would post it, regardless of any NDA's that I had signed BECAUSE IP's can only LEGALLY be tracked SO FAR and cannot incriminate anyone. WE AS PAYING CUSTOMERS SHOULD KNOW WHAT OUR FREAKING PHONE'S ARE DOING, ESPECIALLY WITH A SOFTWARE (FIRMWARE TO BE COMPLETELY CORRECT) UPGRADE!!!

there seems to be new glitches poping up with these software upgrades, my advice to you is:
"if it ain't broke, don't try to fix it" now again people, let's try to keep all concerns on this thread so that we don't have to be going back n forth with others that are being duplicated. thank you.

Default VX4400 Software: all versions post here

I finally caved and was stuck in traffic so I had my 4400 flashed to version 10 today (upgraded from 04). The ring and vibrate funtion works fine, although I wish it would do both at the same time like some of the motorolas do, but anyway. Also good thing the T9 Input doesn't slow down after so many characters. So far I haven't noticed any changes that have not already been mentioned, but I do have one question:

Under the call history menu there is a "1x Packet Counter" option (#6)...is this for the 1x over GIN? I have noticed the new icons that appear to show data being transmitted/recieved, but the counter is still on 0kb for all values. Are there any other "tricks" or features with version 10 that haven't been posted already? Nothing major though, just a curiosity.

How can you upgrade the s/w version through the phone? I'm on ver 6 - time to upgrade.

to upgrade your Software, you have to go into one of the Verizon stores and have them flashed the phone there with the new version which is version 10 now.

not to be confused with your PRL(prefered roaming list)which you can do by dialing *228 option 2

That's what I thought but someone said that they upgraded while sitting in a traffic jam. Hence my confusion.

So basically without v.10, even if it says I'm getting a 1x signal, I'm not actually downloading data over GIN at 1x speeds? Will upgrading the software also allow faster data transmission outside of GIN? I.e., If I connect to the internet wirelessly using my phone as a modem?

That's correct, versions prior to 10 did NOT use 1x for GIN or Web. The MobileOffice has always used the highspeed 1x connection, so you won't notice any significant speed up there.

Funny, I am over there all the time (the dance studio is on 25th between 6th and 7th) and i got my vx4400b from that store. I may go back and get the camera one instead because i have one of the best backuo phones ever (a v60c) so i can always switch if needed when i travel.

It's working real well... I have had no problems at all. There was a weird thing that happened when I took my phone up to Western NY for Turkey day: when I set it on the counter of my kitchen back home, the phone just started rebooting (about three times in a few minutes). I picked it up and moved it, and it hasn't happened again since then. Other than that (and I don't think it had anything to do with the v. 10 software) it is working like a champ. This is the most solid phone I have ever owned, but then again, I did come from the T720/730 CRAP phone, so I guess anything would be an improvement

I have had the 4400 longer than any other phone. IMO, anything other than a T720 is an improvement.
