Default VX6000 Performance :))

I live North of Pittsburgh, PA, where just about all Cell service is Digital. Before I got the 6K, I called the VZW store near Auburn, NY, and inquired about an all digital phone in that are, as our family visits the Fingerlake area each summer. They said some areas were still analog, don't go with an all digital phone up there.

I just returned from two weeks in the Skaneateles area of NY, and I don't believe the 6K ever lost the VZW banner! The signal meter sometimes only had one or two bars, but I still had good reception.

All along I79 and the NYS Thruway signal was great also.
6K performed well, for those still considering one.

Based upon my experience, all digital is not a mistake. Many have tried to call when only analog was available and were not able to complete the call. You made the right decision. The 6000 is a nice phone, too.

I have family in Pittsburgh, as well as Beaver Falls (north of Pittsburgh) and I've always had a good signal in that area.

We had to drive to Pitt. from Atlanta once, and the only time my signal was in-an-out was in the West Virgina mountains, I've been all digital for awhile now and can't complain!

I was at a local Verizon store over the weekend and was chatting with some reps. I asked what their #1 returned phone was for problems and they said it was by the far the LG VX6000 due to reception problems. Some people say its great and some say it bad, I dont undertstand the wide variance. This is all digital territory so the fact that its not trimode shouldnt have made any difference unless they were traveling in rural areas....

Tony..you say the 6000 has good RF?

do you doubt me?
first of all, no offence to Verizon reps because there are some good ones out there, but from my experiences i tend to not go by what they tell me but rather by my own experiences. I've used many phones since the 6k's released, and i always end up going back to my 6K, even the Slider that i had been waiting for to be released didn't cut it for me so that went back. Now i'm not saying the 6k is perfect, but are there any perfect phones out there? I bet you that if you were to go to a different you would get a different answer.....

I have a slider on Virgin Mobile that I use as a back up. It's rarely turned on. I keep just enough money on it every 90 days to keep it active. I have been using the LG VX3200 on Verizon which I love the phone due to its good RF and simple menus but I gave it to my wife because she was using an Audio 8600 that she would drop in her purse and I couldnt get in touch with her due to low ringer volume. I am using her Audio 8600 for now on Verizon until I see something that I like. I really want to keep a TRIMODE phone if possible but its becoming difficult to do in Verizons line up. The ideal phone for me would be the VX3200 with an oustide display, web and get it now. Actually the Audi 8600 is holding its own RF wise... I dont like the green keys on the Samsung A650 or it may would have been a choice.. I played with all of the phones at a Verizon store over the weekend and I think the VX6000 was my favorite, even over the 7000. I will monitor the V710 situation but I dont want to pay some crazy price just for a phone.

I have a 5 line Verizon account so I am always looking at their phones and we play phone swap within the household sometimes..

I am heading to rural NC/VA tomorrow and it will be interesting to see how much, if any, analog is needed.

to be fair, verizon mostly has excellent service along major highways...even if the highway cuts thru some rural areas..

that might be true for your area, but keep in mind that Verizon also has roaming partners that support digital signals not just analog so with that in mind your 6k can go the extra mile...

I was worried at first about my 6k's performance when traveling when compared to my 4400's, but even after some trips through the tennnesse and west virgina mountains, as long as i was near a major roadway all was good

No, i could have kept my Sly since i'm the one paying for my Verizon account, but i kept my 6K and returned the Sly since RF wise the 6K works better in my region, see my profile? i'm still using VERIZON..

I figured performance would be better on highways.
For what it's worth, my wife has the VX3100, but only the Local VZW plan. While we were in central NY, my 6K had noticably better reception most of the time.

6K just plain works!

I took the plunge while on vacation in NC and decided to buy a new VX6000 that was on sale from a Verizon retailer.. It has VER 6 software in it.After testing it for almost a week, I love the user interface, camera and features but the RF performance is on par with that of an old Motorola V120C. My Audiovox 8600 with the antenna down beats the 6000 by far. Almost every call I have made or received on the 6000 has been just choppy audio missing entire words on both ends. I spent a great deal of time riding with a friend that has a VX4400 which also ran rings around my new 6000. I looked at the return policy and it said 15 days or 30 minutes airtime whichever comes first. So I guess I am stuck with it but will have to be directly under a cell site to use the thing.....I really like the phone, its a shame but I am greatly dissapointed with its ability to make and receive quality calls. I will keep it as one of my family phones but "I" will have to go to something much more dependable such as the Audio 8600 or the VX3200.

too bad you didn't buy it from a corporate store, the minutes woudn't matter, just as long as you return it within 15 days, if anything else, i can always use an extra 6k....
