Default VX6000: Roam Indicator Question - Verizon

I know this is an extreme newbie question, but a little help is appriciated. I am traveling to Northern NC, where the coverage map on Verizon's website states that there is coverage. On my phone, I get a flashing Triangle, the roam indicator. However, is this usually solid while roaming or does it always flash? I ask because I read on the Verizon website that *86 should not work while on another network, but I was able to use *86 fine.

Will calls made right now incure the roaming charge?

If the triangle is SOLID then you ARE PAYING for roaming. But with a FLASHING triangle you are roaming but NOT paying.

Doesn't this depend on the type of plan you are on? My wife is on a Local Plan with the VX6000. We were in central california and she had a solid triangle. I'm pretty sure we don't get charged roaming for anywhere in california.

Default VX6000: Roam Indicator Question - Verizon

double checking:

1st VZW rep says in California using a Local plan.. solid triangle will show when you leave your home area. But as long as you know you are in California or Nevada you are not charged roaming (no matter if the triangle is solid or flashing). On an America's Choice plan is when you should pay close attention to the triangle. If it's flashing you will NOT get charged roaming. If it's solid you WILL get charged .69 cents per minute roaming.

2nd rep confirmed this.

Default VX6000: Roam Indicator Question - Verizon

I have the Local plan for North and South Caronlina. I'm up here visiting my Mom in Reidsville, NC. When I put her zip code into the Verizon website it says that service is not availible here, but since I have the NC and SC plan, I will not be charged for roaming? If that's the case, then this is VERY good news, because I will be spending a lot of time up here. I guess I will know for sure when I get my bill.

So the only thing I really need to watch for is a solid triangle?

Thanks for all the help!

I had a local CA plan for years and thats how it was. The triangle never flashed if you left your home area. It would always be solid once outside the home area.
Just switched to AC and have to look at the triangle every now and then.

Hmmm.. you have a Local plan so you don't need to watch for the solid triangle.. that would only be the case if you had an AC plan. Call 611 from your phone and just ask them if the area to which you are traveling is a non-roaming call with your plan. They'll tell you. Its a free call, do it now.

Default VX6000: Roam Indicator Question - Verizon

Well I dialed 611 and got a message from Alltel saying that they couldn't put my call through to my carrier. Oh well.. I'll just call when I hit the road in the morning. Thanks for the tips.

So because I have a local plan I shouldn't have to pay roaming in NC and SC?

.. I'm not aware of the specifics of your area, maybe someone else here is. I only know about the Local plan we have in California covers California and Nevada with no roaming charges. I'm assuming you should have a pretty decent coverage area where you are too but I really have no idea.
