Hi everybody, Hope this is an appropriate palce to be posting this. Well, I have a slight problem right now. I signed up with verizon service today and thought I made the right choice of phones - went with the Samsung 530. The main reason I went with this phone is because it comes with the second battery AND the stand alone battery charger. The reason this was important to me is because on the weekends when airtime is free I want to be able to talk pretty much non stop without waiting an hour or whatever to recharge the battery. Based on information the store sales reps gave me, I was under the impression that you couldn't use the phone when the battery was charging, thus the need for the extra battery and extra charger. I will be making most of my calls from my home so now that I find out I can use it while charging, I don't see any point in having the extra battery and charger. So, now I have a dilemma. The VX6000 seems better in every way and is the same price as the samsung, except it didn't come with the extra battery stuff. So should I return my samsung and get the vx? Or should I just go with a super cheap (the entery level verizon phone, the kycorea something or other - $9.99 with 2 year contract). Is this phone still worthwhile? I am just concerned about good clear calls. Don't need a lot of extra features and fancy stuff. I posted last night and people advised me to go with the vx4400 since it had the tri mode capability. The kycorea cheap phone also has this feature. I would just as well assume saving the $150 and get the cheap phone unless the call quality and battery life is a lot worse on it. Assuming I do stay with the $150 price ranger...does the vx6000 have the 530 beat? I know the obvious difference is the camera, or lack of on the 530. While I think the camera would be pretty nifty to play with, I'm sure the novelty would wear off after a while and I do have a very nice nikon digital camera for taking pictures already. Are there any "normal" ringers on the vx6000? I'm happy with the selection on the 530. I'm happy with pretty much everything about this nifty little phone minus the outside display clock, wish it was "digital" type format instead of resembling a regular clock face. Little harder to read quickly since there are only dots for 12, 3, 6, and 9. Unless I'm missing something and you can change the way the time is displayed on the outside? Anyways sorry if I'm rambling. I have 15 days to decide and I just want to make sure I make the right choice. Oh, also, Iwent with the 2 year contract even though I originally planned on the one year. I wanted to save the 60 or so dollars (extra phone cost plus activation fee). Should I stick with this, or is 1 year a lot better due to new plans and such coming out? Thanks! |

Hey paradox. I had both the a530 & VX6000 and chose the a530. The VX6000 is an excellent phone, no gripes about it. Its just that like you, I already have a very nice camera so the feature on the phone isn't big for me. The a530 gave me 1 extra bar of reception than the vx6000 where I live, and since the phone was smaller I just chose the a530. But, to answer your question about the external display, yes you can change it. I have it set to a digital clock/date instead of analog. The LG doesn't have as great of "regular" ringers selection as does the a530, but you can always use GIN or some other means to solve that problem. One of the major things that the LG is better than the Samsung is their color screen. You can see a little better with the LG in direct sunlight than you can with the Samsung. I can't tell you anything about the kyocera...might want to browse through thier forum and see what people think of it. goodluck.

thanks for the reply. i really like the 530 so far, I just wish I could see the date and time on the inside of the camera but no big deal really (the verizon banner issue thing?). Btw how did you change it to digital time display on the outside display? been looking through manual and playing with phone but can't figure it out. thanks!

hmmm... i had the same decision i had to make (in fact, i'm still in the middle of my 15 days trial) recently... and i chose a530.. it was such a tough decision, and i went with lx6000 in the beginning, ONLY because of the cool outer display.. i really liked the scrolling neon-purple letters.. (i know i know~ kinda stupid huh?) anyways, i realized that the phone was very bulky in my hand after carrying it for awhile.. the belt-clip that came with it, if you are an user, can be good but i'd rather like to carry the phone in my pocket so it was very uncomfortable carrying the phone in my pocket... as for the phone signal.. i had very similar results to a point where it wasn't really comparable... the double battery deal definitely drew me in also.. so i actually went back to the dealer in 3 days, and switched to a530.. so far.. i am very very happy with the phone.. it has all the features that lx6000 offers (except the camara).. i knew camara thing would wear off after using it for couple of weeks.. just like you i also have a digital camara so there really isn't a need to have a separate camara on the phone.. besides, after their inital free offer of 2.99/month for unlmited usage.. it's only 2.99 for 20 pics then .25cents a pic to send pics all over... which really isn't econimical... i'd rather take pics with my dcam and send them free over the net via email.. double battery is definitely a plus.. since it has the extra "battery-holder" that allows me to charge the extra battery while using my phone... phone CAN be used while charging.. which is a plus... |

I was torn between the 2 as well, I went with the 6000 for the better interface and larger, sharper screen. When I purchased mine they gave me an extra extended battery (it was supposed to be the standard but they were out of stock), car charger, and hands free kit. Even if you don't need the camera, I would say give the 6000 a try. The screen is amazing, the battery life is awesome, reception and clarity is amazing compared to the 4400, and the rings are loud and clear. I have a couple of digital cameras as well, but I don't bother carrying them with me everywhere I go. If I happen to run into an old friend, a cool bike or car, or a hot girl in a skimpy outfit, it is nice to have that camera handy.
