Is this possible? I always obtain phones through the black market (i.e. ebay) so that I don't have to change my calling plan, but is it true that I have to give up my grandfathered-8pm-nights-plan that I began 2 years ago in exchange for the yucky 9pm nights in order to accommodate the new VX6000? Please tell me it's not true... anyone? |

Unfortunately, I think that is the way it has to be. VZW has an early upgrade option that requires you to have your phone line (your actual MTN, not your current plan or agreement) for over 12 months, you must have a plan that is $49.99 or above, and you will need to sign a new 2 year agreement. Usually, it's better for you to find a family member who can upgrade and sucker them into getting that phone and then swapping with you. Any tech can do an ESN change for you and get the 2 phones switched. :-) -Paul |

you dont have to do anything...if you want to keep your plan you have to buy the vx6000 retail or from ebay....then just do an esn change.

I had to make that decision. But it was either $50 for the phone ($199 - $100FE2 - $50MIR) or pay $350 for the phone retail. For me, I can live with the 9pm nights, since I don't use up my minutes anyway eventhough 8pm nights/3500 NW would be nicer since I don't use the phone much on weekends. |

This is a follow up to my original posting. The responses I got, for which I'm grateful, actually confused me more than helped me. Let me make clear that I am not concerned about the price of the handset - I'm not talking about rebates, or cost of phone or anything like that. I'm simply talking about whether it's possible to keep my very old plan (Southwest12-state - 8pm nights, 3500 nights/wknds) while transferring my number/service from my VX4400 to a VX6000. Once again, the possibility, not the cost consideration. I ask this because I did this from my TM-510 to my v60 to my VX4400, all the while keeping my phone plan. The Verizon tech person did it for free each time. Now all of a sudden, they are saying it's not possible - that I need a digital plan in order for that phone to work, but I think that's hokey, and I need a better explanation for this. Please reply if you have any insight into this. Thanks again. -connie |

I've been on the Single Rate East plan ( which is no longer offered) for a little over 2 years, and just upgraded to a 6000 with no problem keeping the plan. In fact, I was worried that maybe with the 6000 being a digital-only phone, I'd have to switch plans, but no.

Oh, I forgot to mention that I bought the 6000 at the Verizon store, and with the rebates and discounts, it was $49. I don't know why you'd want to pay retail...

The vx6000 is a DIGITAL ONLY phone. As such the old PRL for your plan is probably not compatible because it has analog coverage in it and there copmputers may have a block on giving you a prl with analog coverage when you hgave an all digital phone. What states are the plan in and how many anytime minutes do you have? | |

According to the info Verizon Coporate gave me, (i'm a retailer) it has to be on a plan that was available after 6/2/03. Otherwise you cannot upgrade to the 6000. It's also printed on a sticker attached to the phone box.

It astounds me the sheer volume of how much conflicting information abounds. In my quest for answers, I get even more befuddled. I am going to leave with the conclusion that I will have to give up my beloved phone plan in order to get the VX6000. So, I guess it's gonna be the VX4400 for a little while longer. I can live with it. But the reminder beeps... *sigh* I can't stand knowing that they exist on an LG phone somewhere out there, but not on mine. Thanks everyone for your thoughts and feedback. Much obliged, -connie |

You would be able to, except the 6000 has an all digital plan required.

i traded in my t720 for an vx6000 and made verizon pay for it. regardless of that, i took my vx6000 and had them switch it over to my old plan with 8pm nights. they said the only problem is sometimes i may not be able to use the picture sending features in certain areas but it does not affect the usability of the phone. the phone works wonderfully and since i don't care about emailing pics from it, it worked for me, and extra 1200 free minutes is worth the no problems ive had
