LG 5350 USB / Sprint Software modem question

I am currently using a serial to USB cable to connect my laptop to my phone as a internet connection. Everything is fine except I got sick of the constant disconnects and slow speeds so I sprung for the true Sprint USB cable and software. Does anyone have the exact process for using the genuine Sprint USB cable? I want to make sure I am not charged towards my voice minutes which I read happens if you use the Dialer software. Do I have to use the Connection Manager software? I have the Dialer and Connection Manager software as well as the genuine LG drivers. I am NOT currently charged using the serial to USB cable (which does not use either the Connection Manager or Dialer software). Also, I want to ensure I am getting maximum speed out of the new cable.

Can someone post the instructions (or link to them)?
