Dear friends, thank you for your replies....I will help if I can.... 1st, let me say thanks to everyone on the forum who provide help for the vx4400. There must be many like me who never register and/or post who benefit greatly from your info. Again, grazie. Let me take it from the top as the new kid.... SnapSync is the software product offered by Futuredial (www.futuredial.com). It syncs MS Outlook with most of the phones on the market these days. If you bought the VX1/VX10 cable from Radio Shack for your VX4400 then you may recognize the FutureDial name. I bought the cable online with the software bundle so I could add wallpaper, tweak the filesystem, and most importantly (to me) sync my Outlook contacts with my phone. My wife has the VX10 and SnapSync worked great with that phone but until 5.16.03 there was no support for the vx4400. BitPim? Yes...I am using BitPim but I have not found a way to sync with MS Outlook. Any takers? So....if you bought the SnapSync software or you have a copy that requires the update for the 4400....it is now available (if you have a clean serial). If you are looking for a free sync with MS Outlook...you may be out of luck. I bought the software straight and after one download of the update I can't download it again. This company (while sukking at publishing any useful information or updates on their Web site) has managed to allow only one download per serial. I'm sure someone will figure out how to do it, but I am not that one. Yes, the link requires a registration with serial number, and it does show a Sanyo filename and then a filename that makes no sense (dll something). But the update posted for 5.16.03 is the one for the VX4400 (according to FutureDial support). Save them whales; and bless that Puget Sound..... - RosarioStrait |

rosariostrait, How about giving us a review on how well it actually works with the vx4400 and what features of snapsync work with the vx4400? Thanks, |

Some Snapsync Observations (I posted this on the Howard Forums too) I bought the Snapsync SW when I got my phone about three months ago. I've been patiently waiting for the VX400 patches. I finally saw that they were avail on the 16th, so, down they came. Two files: one was noted as Sanyo 8100 drivers and the other as SS_DLL_Update... After getting them down I ran the SS file first. It unpacked itself and found my installation of Snapsync and made the appropriate patches. I then launched snapsync. Some observations: (Installed on W2K laptop) 1) It requires the original Futuredial Snapsync SW and Prolific drivers be installed first. In fact, it asks for your email address and serial number before it let's you download. 2) The first time it's run, you need to select your com port and phone type. After doing this a few times, I realized that it does not remember the com port. 3) The phone needed to be connected to the cable and the cable to the PC or nothing works. You can't run the app without them 4) The first thing the SW does is read the phone's phonebook data then bounces the phone. This is followed by reading the Outlook Contact list. This seemed to work even if I did not have Outlook running. It appeared to be smart enough to connect to the exchange server and read the contact list from there (impressive). I must assume that you need to have Outlook installed otherwise SS may just look forever. 5) Once both sets of data are read, they are displayed side by side. 6) You then need to move through the outlook contact list and add the entries you want to the phone's list. Pretty simple and intuitive. 7) then, doing a "sync" will load the phone with the updated list and load outlook contact list with the phone's list. 8) If you have duplicates of the same exact name it will prompt for the master. 9) Regardless of the way you have outlook display names (first last or last, first) when the data gets into the phone list and the phone they appear as first last with both names in one field. 10) You can't change the data in outlook and have it appear in the App unless you exit and re-launch the App. You can only change the outlook data by using outlook. You can change the phone data by using the phone or editing the entry in SS. If you edit in the phone you need to exit the app and re-launch so it reads the phone again. There is no "reload" function. 11) there are no provisions to update ringers, picture ID's, memo's. Only names and phone numbers. 12) the fields avail are name, home, work, mobile, pager, fax, email, webaddr. These map to their counterparts in outlook. There is no way to change the mapping. 13) there is a transfer feature that will let you send the data to a second vx4400 (if you just happen to have one sitting around). This is certainly a version 1.0 program that leaves much to be desired. Was it worth the $20 to get my outlook data into my phone? Probably not. After using this program and Bitpim and Gagin, I think Bitpim will come out the winner once it's syncronization capabilities are developed. BTW, I never did anything with the Sanyo 8100 file except to unzip it. It appears to be a set of drivers but since my prolific drivers seen to be working just fine, I didn't do anything more with these. |
