When you charge a VX4400 with the battery attached to the phone, the outter LCD screen stays light while charging. This bothers some people for two reasons: 1. Some are afraid that the LCD could burn out. (This would take years. You'll probably not have the phone that long). 2. It is very bright! If it's in the same room as you, and you're trying to sleep, it's annoying. |

That's true...I cover mine up at night while it's charging. One thing though....would you lose the data in your phone if the battery charges for 3 or 4 hours?

I have an extended and standard battery so I just charge the battery while the phone plus other battery just sits pretty. I don't like the LCD on. It probably charges faster (probably not by that much though) with just the battery.

Yep, I do the same thing now that I have the extended battery as well. Never have to wait for a charge. I wait until the battery is almost dead on the phone then swap it out for the fully charged one. There's always a fully charged battery waiting to go this way, and I never charge the phone on the charger--just the battery. |

i don't know the exact specs of the extended battery, but you use it pianoman41 so i'm guessing you could give me a better estimate of how much longer it actually lasts versus the standard battery. i know it's different for each person and how they use it, but i was just hoping for an example to go on rather than the specs you read online

I have to agree with those who like to "swap" out batteries, I alway's try to have two batteries that way you alway's have one charged and ready to go. I learned this trick from regular cordless phones, as most have one battery charging in the base station and one in the handset. Plus since most batteries only last a year or a little longer then it makes sense to swap out batteries, your spreading the life cycle out over two batteries instead of one. |

I have two VX4400's (my wife and I) and both display the same symptoms: When fully charged, the battery icon does not indicate a full charge. When I plug the phone and battery into the charger it seems to take about 5-10 minutes to "fully" charge (green light on desk charger). When removed, the charge indicator on one phone shows one bar. The other phone shows two bars. No matter how long I leave them in the charger (overnight) neither phone indicates a fully charged battery icon. I tried removing the phone from the charger and plugging it right back in and the green light comes on after about 30 seconds. The results are the same Both phones and both desktop chargers react this way. I bought a travel charger and it took about 2 hours of charging before the phone indicates a full charge. When disconnected, the phone showed a full battery charge! It lasted about 3 days of normal use. Both desktop chargers "fill" either battery in 5-10 minutes but neither phone shows a full charge. Could both desktop chargers be defective? Could both phone batteries have developed a "memory"? (Both phones are about a month old)Could it be that the travel charger is the only one really working properly? BTW, I also tried charging with the car charger and I get the same results as with the desktop chargers: Very fast fill-up time, but no "full" icon. Has anyone else experienced this??? Also, someone mentioned an extended life battery. It it physically larger and does the phone still fit in the plastic holster? Thanks. |

Those are some bizzare symptoms. Until you mentioned the car charger I was going to say you probably do have two bad desktop chargers. It doesn't sound like a battery problem since you said you can get a full charge from the travel charger in about 2 hours. I use the extended battery and the travel charger and it takes about 2-3 hours to fully charge. The fact the car charger does the same thing as the desktop charger is bizzare, as they charge the phone differently. Does the ravel charger always work fine? Does the car charger always fail? I would just take your phones back, explain the problem, and see if you can get a swap for defective units.

Some people ask the advantages of charging the battery alone-the reson i do it is because I dont like the idea of the screen staying on because even though it finishes within 3 hours, the phone still has the finished screen on.

The travel charger always seems to work: 1-3 hours produces a full-charge icon on the phone (both phones). I have never tried charging the battery without the phone. I'll give this a try in the desktop charger the next time the phone needs charging (zero bars). The car charger (plugs into the cigarette lighter) always indicates a fully charged battery after about 10 minutes, but the full icon shows 2 bars, sometimes 3. I have yet to get either of the two desktop chargers or my one car charger to produce a full icon on the phone; only the travel charger. I'm a bit reluctant to continously do this type of testing without allowing the battery to fully discharge in between for fear I will cause the battery to develop a memory. To speed up the dischages, I set the phone to display the wallpaper continuously and left it open. After about 4 hours, it powered down on it's own. I then put the battery only into the disktop charger. After about 10 minutes, the green light came on. I put the battery into the phone and found only one charge bar lit. I then tried the other desktop charger, battery only, and after 10 more minutes, I had the exact same results: still only one bar. I pluggeg in the travel charger and after an hour it's still charging. I think both desktop charger units are defective. |
