Just BALpatch to the eri Browse Directory, download eri.bin, jump into a hex editor, and type in spaces over "Verizon Wireless" and upload it back into the phone.

This just removes it from your home area. In roam mode or even extended, it still appears. (unless you want to delete those too.) I did this and can confirm it works!! Woo hoo. Now, if someone can put some free games on there!!

-NOTE: Make a backup of you eri.bin first. Safety first!

NEWBIE TRANSLATION:

This lets you delete the words "Verizon Wireless" on your main screen on the 4400 when you are in your home area. It makes it to where there are NO WORDS overlaying your backgrounds. [img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif[/img]

yeah i got that... but i dont usderstand BALpatch the blah blah blah... and i just updated mine again and i dont have the banner... wierd...

Important step when taking the Verizon banner off...Make sure you do two things. At least when I finally got it to work this is what I did.

1. After starting GAGIN make sure to go offline. (Im not sure if this is necessary as I did the second step which finally worked,)

2. Drag the file, do not click "new" "file" etc. When I tried numerous times, the program kept telling me it wouldn't copy. Also, if your phone says "service required" (which mine did several times) turn it off and turn it back on. This refreshed the folders.

Great job guys in cracking this phone. I love this phone more than my GF!! (um hope she doesn't read this!)

After removing the banner check menu, 9, 2 and make sure the ERI is still listed. Otherwise you need to do *228 and load the PRL/ ERI again in the phone.
Some Hex editors cause removing the eri after loading it back it the phone.

I loaded all of the software, did all the cracks, opened the brewappload, I could connect to the phone, see files, but did not see any of the files you guys talk about, eri, etc. I only see 1 directory, no shared folders, etc....i changed the balpatch directory to eri but nothing changed?
Basically I followed all the steps listed in the instructions until it says to d/l the folder...the folder doesnt exist on the phone

What if after uploading the pic and you get the wallpaper up there with no problem and your eri=none. You *228 and it still says eri=none. I have done this several times now and I still get the eri=none. Do I need the eri? Obviously there is an eri there because I do not get the Verizon Wirless anymore. What do i do about the eri?

Great job on the how to's... it made finding how to do all these things very simple and easy... i love my phone, i have lots of custom wallpapers, ringtones, and have "added" time to my games... great job GAGIN.

This is interesting...I just got my phone tonight...and I was all set to remove the VZW banner. But lo and behold, no banner on my phone. I wonder if it depends on what store you get it from.

I have done this but then my phone got stuck in extended network mode and the only way I could get rid of it was to put the old file back
