Default VX4400 Txt Message Alert Problems....

Seems like no matter WHAT I set it on.... all the phone does when I get a Text Message is Beep quickly 4 times, and that's it.

Most times I do NOT hear this. So I need the phone to Vibrate, and/or give me a louder ring or tone.

But no matter what I change it to (there are a few options).. I can only get it to beep.
I have it set right now on "Custom Ring Tone" but still all it does is beep quietly.... ONCE.

Menu
3
7
4
2

and you can see what I'm talking about....

Default VX4400 Txt Message Alert Problems....

There is another thread that I posted regarding the reminder alerts. I was told that the reminders do not work because of a bug issue. It sounds like your phone might have a similar problem. Keep tabs on that thread as to when to take your phone to have it updated. This might cure your problems.

Default VX4400 Txt Message Alert Problems....

Well I just figured out that problem.

I was messing around with Txt Message Alerts. Not E-mail Alerts. There's a difference (unlike my previos phone).

Every message I was sending to myself to test it was from my computer... my e-mail. Therefore... the E-mail alert tone was sounding... NOT the Txt Message Alert tone.

So I set the E-mail alert tone to what I wanted, and that solved the problem.

I knew some of y'all had problems with this and saying it wont play your tones.

Well, under settings for each person in your adress book, it has ring and text message ring. Therefore, thats how u get it

If the person texts y and IS in your addy book, then you get the stupid ringer. If they text you and are NOT in your book you get what you set it on. I called Verizonicon tech support... He said that it is a glitch and there is nothing he could do. I am running version 5.

I don't think Verzon tech is correct. I figured that out how it will work and I haven't had a single problem since.
Here how the alerts works:
If you receive the message from the mobile number (Someone compose the message from the phone and use Verzion service) you need to set the text msg alerts (Upper key, 7, 4, 2, Custom Ring).
If you receive the messages by any other format you need to set the Email msg alert.(Upper key, 7, 4, 3, Custom Ring).
If you receive a text message from other carriers beside Verizonicon, the message receive as an xxxxxx @xxxxx format. Your caller ID will only recognize the 7 or 10 digits number. Another way if the caller ID does not recognize the phone number you are not going to get the same ring sound that you set your text msg alert to.
I know it is confusing but here how you can test that:
Set your text msg alert( (Upper key, 7, 4, 2, Custom Ring, ring1). Make sure press ok to save it.
Compose a message thru your mobile phone and send it to your self (for the address use your 7 or 10 digits number). Make sure your phone has set to ring only. The alert notification is Ring1.

Now Set your Email msg alert( (Upper key, 7, 4, 3, Custom Ring, ring3). Make sure press ok to save it.
Go to www.verizonwireless.com website and send a text message to your mobile number. (for the address use your 10 digits number). Make sure your phone has set to ring only. The alert notification is Ring3.
