Just got this bit of info through work. Pass it on. CLARIFICATION: UNLIMITED DATA ON VISION RATE PLANS Sprint's Vision rate plans for Voice and Data include unlimited data download and transfer. However, when a Sprint Vision phone is used as a computer modem on one of these plans, data is charged at the overage rate of $.02 per Kb. Sprint may deny or terminate customer' service without notice if they incur a high enough charge when using their handset as a modem. Stress to your customers that the Voice and Data rate plans are intended to be used for recieving and sending data on the HANDSET ONLY. (This disclaimer is listed on the rate plan service guide.) For customers who wish to use their Vision handset as a modem, you can offer them Sprint's data-only rate plans for Laptops and PDAs, starting at only $40.00/month. Also, I've still got to check with my Sprint rep, but it appears from the new literature that I've recieved that "Unlimited" nights & weekends for $10/month is actually just 2000 night & weekend minutes. I'll get back to everyone on this. Also, the LG5350 manual available to Sprint employees on their intra-web system is the same .pdf available from LG's site. My Sprint rep has a call in to his LG rep to see if there is something more comprehensive floating around out there... Easy, Bob |

Okay, here's the deal with nights & weekends. If you aren't on one of Sprint's current plans, then the $10/month adds 2000 nights & weekends (typically, this is for customers whose nights & weekends begin at 8:00pm). Current rate plans add true unlimited nights & weekends for $10/month. |

I hope they don't cut off the ability to connect the phone to a laptop. To be honest I think the entire reason they went to unlimited vision is because it didn't take off like they anticipated. They spent all this money on a fancy 3G network and people aren't willing to pay for ringers and games. Meanwhile, they have content contracts with CNN and other providers so they need to deliver the hits. and.... there really aren't that many people who have the know how to get the cable and configure the software..basically piece together a connection for a laptop (since the Sprint cables are gone from the market). and finally, you can't really sit and stay connected to the internet all day..it disconnects you just like a cheesy dial up account. I use it to connect my personal laptop at work and avoid "monitoring" and "censored" websites my company has in place. I connect for a max of about 45 minutes a day to catch up on news, stocks, and ebay, but I am spoiled with a 2 meg cable connection at home. "Enjoy while you can"....unlimited wireless internet!! The "CLARIFICATION: UNLIMITED DATA ON VISION RATE PLANS", to my knowledge, is current & accurately represents Sprint's stance on this issue. In fact, the memo was sent directly to me by my Sprint rep & is dated "EFFECTIVE: JAN '03". Easy, Bob P.S.--So, yes...a 1MEG file would run you around $20 if the handset was acting only as a modem. P.S.S.--It doesn't appear that their intention is to cease customers from using their handsets as modems...it looks like they simply want to charge more money for it. |

Then who wants any of this then!? What's the point of any cable, any driver!? I can leave my house, check into a Marriot Hotel, pay their charge for a room, use their land line all day and all night and still come in cheaper than this "unlimited" internet!!!!

Well, I just got off the phone with Sprint. The representative was unaware of the $.02/kb charge, just that if the phone is used "excessively" as a modem that the user will be contacted and asked to purchase a data-only plan for the laptop. I read her this memo and she said she had heard nothing of the sort. Seeing as it's supposedly effective 15 days ago I would think that the people who issued the memo would at least know about it. So I don't know, the person on the other end of the phone doesn't seem to know anything about this data charge. She did however mention something about how they will be monitoring Vision accounts for excessive usage, so maybe perhaps the use beyond a certain level would be charged. In your memo it does say the rate is for overage so perhaps if Sprint decides you've used too much bandwidth they flip a switch and start charging the $.02/kb. I mean I guess it's entirely possible that this lady I talked to had no clue what is going on, but has anyone as of yet seen something on their bill which would suggest they've been charged for data usage? |

The charge in question is for when customers do not have a monthly recurring charge for vision...i.e. $10 per month for Unlimited.

Sounds like that is the case as long as you have the $10/month charge on your account or are in the 3-month introductory period. Just don't go using it as your primary internet connection and go download a bunch of MP3s or something.

FYI, If you dial any other number (i.e. an ISP) sprint will charge you for airtime instead of including in PCS vision plan...

So if I dial an ISP in evenings or on weekends which are unlimited, it should not be a problem...? Just bought this phone this weekend for $49, couldn't resist. Keep reading reviews and seeing the LG LX 5350 and not sure what that means. My box only says LG 5350 yet my phone seems to have all the same features Also, the guy at Rat Shack (they have answers....) threw 50 minutes onto my land line long distance from Sprint, but I think I'm dropping the landline. I want to use the USB cable (anyone know where I can find one cheaper than $27 (RS) or am I sounding way too cheap...? Add that to $39 for the software and there's my problem, but still, if it works without any repurcussions that would be worth it) and FutureDial software to hook up my laptop and PC. Thanks. Great little phone. Wondering if it was stupid also signing up for the Voice Command stuff since it seems you can put in names and numbers through the sidebar option? Only got it yesterday, so any suggestions would help. Cheers. S |

Actually I believe it charges you regardless of whether you have airtime available on your account or not. (It thinks you are doing a 2G wireless web connection.) But if you are using vision you should not be seeing those charges...you don't need an outside ISP. The voice command system is really worth it if you call allot of different people, if you only call a few people then just use speed dialing. |
