just download them from get it now. or if your cheap like us get a data cable and down load bitpim from bitpim.com they have the 8100 now listed. download the mp3 you want then just change the extension to .qcp then upload it to the phone via bitpim

The upgrade is definitely available now at Verizon stores and fixes many of the "bugs" initially reported with the phone--the phone now plays MP3s, the outside buttons work, etc. It seems that people are really pleased with the new upgrade and the phone!

Has anyone seen an issue with loading ringtones from Bitpim? A friend I set up with Bitpim who has the 8100 just called me... he just tried to load some rings and now when he tries to get into his ringtones, the phone appears to shut itself down. I had him try to reload a ring with bitpim and select "replace all". That did not work. He did mention that the new phone detection box keeps popping up.. maybe came unplugged during upload? Anyways, I have searched and seen a few others with this problem, but no solutions to it. Any help is GREATLY appreciated, I am starting to wish I wouldn't have showed it to him...

Update - Found a solution to the problem. One of the tunes he uploaded didn't have an extension. He added .mp3, resent it to the phone and he could again get into his ringtones. |

I have the 8100. I keep getting the following when I try to read data from phone: An unexpected exception has occurred. Please see the help for details on what to do. Traceback (most recent call last): File "gui.pyo", line 197, in run File "gui.pyo", line 138, in __call__ File "gui.pyo", line 1003, in getdata File "com_lgvx4400.pyo", line 263, in getcalendar File "com_lgvx4400.pyo", line 689, in getfilecontents File "com_lgvx4400.pyo", line 889, in sendbrewcommand File "com_lgvx4400.pyo", line 928, in _sendbrewcommand BrewNoSuchFileException: No such file I have used BitPim in the past on my 7100 and 6100. But now why this? This is over a cable though I get a similiar result while reading through the Bluetooth Serial Port. Any sugestions? |

I believe it's that easy if you just want to listen to the mp3's. What they're discussing above is how to use free mp3's as ringers.

Yeah, to put ringtones on it, make sure you have Ver. 4 (To do that: From standby press #4357*4357 Go down to "SW Version" T81VZV01 = Version 1 - Go get phone upgrated T81VZV04 = Version 4 - You are good) You can do it through bitpim, but it is much easer to get a MiniSD card, plug it into your computer, and upload the songs. To listen to them, press and hold the Play/Pause button for 3 secconds, or with it open, goto: Get it Now > Get Tunes & Tones > Tunes |

So, can anyone confirm whether or not if you have a miniSD card and you have MP3s on it, that you can play said MP3s as ringtones? If not, do you need to DL bitpim on to the miniSD, and then they will play as ring tones? Thanks, -Kevin btw, I just got this phone a few days ago and I really do love it. Just gotta figure out the ringtone issue. | |

easy to do .. just scroll right on the menus until you get to "settings and tools". go to second option down "sounds". then ,on that screen ,go to "alert sounds" .pick txt mssg and set to what you want. also to put your whole phone into vibrate mode , temporarily, just hold down the * key and it will put you in "manner mode" * key held again puts you back to normal sound options |
