Default Review of my new PM-225

Ok now that I have internet working I can give my review. I've only had the phone for two days so I haven't become totally familiar or use to it yet (especially since I used Samsung for 2.5 years).

Earpiece volume and clarity is excellent and much better than my A680 was and a little better than my A500 (which until now was the best I had ever used). LG appears to have hit the nail on the head with their sound quality techniques on Sprint phones.

Speakerphone is super! It's full duplex and sounds much better than the Sanyo 8200/7300 speakerphone. However you have to have the phone open to use it unlike the 8200/7300. Not a big deal for me though.

Ringer volume is loud and clear and I can actually hear the phone ring when it's in my pocket and I'm in a semi-noisy enviroment. The A680 had a very weak ringer speaker.

Reception is as good or better than any other phone I've used. I've never really noticed much difference among Sprint phones like other Sprint users like to claim.

Keypad is awesome. The buttons feel strong and light up well and they are well placed. The A680 had an unevenly lit keypad and some buttons felt a little loose or wobbly.

Battery life so far is noticeably better than my A680 although I haven't had the phone long enough to say how much better yet. The battery charging meter has 4 bars instead of 3 which I like.

It's nice having an Openwave browser now. No more weird errors when surfing certain web pages like my A680 often had with the older Samsung browser. Web speed appears to be very quick.

I haven't used the camera yet because I've been too busy dealing with the Vision problem. I don't expect the camera to take great pictures but I'm sure it will be good enough for what I need.

Ok now for the negative:

Size is a little bigger than what I'm use to.

I read on another forum that picture caller ID can only be used on the internal screen. Haven't checked that out yet.

When set to "roaming only" mode the phone will lock on to "analog" instead of favoring digital like other Sprint phones with the "roaming only" option set. It appears that LG simply goofed and renamed "analog roam" to "roaming only". Probably a software bug that they could fix with a future release but not very likely to happen.

Sounds like a solid little phone Larry...thanks for the review.
i'm still deciding on this one or the Sanyo 8300, i'm leaning towards the LG.

I really didn't think it would matter, reception-wise, or preference-wise.

Sounds like a nice little flip.

Larry, can you give us a update in a couple of weeks. I always find I really like a phone when I first get it.

Will do. Yes it's always easier to like a phone when you first get it because it's new and exciting.

ah ok, i see what you meant now, yes i agree, an LG with an internal antenna is yet to be released by Verizon, i noticed that Samsung has a similar one the MM-A880, but that's also a Sprint phone...

So, out of curiosity. What are your choices for next Sprint phone?

well for one earpiece quality which has been a concern to those of us who are aware of Sanyo's history on the subject, from reading Ehcruzan's review they still need to improve on it which makes me lean towards the LG 225, and besides LG's have also been some of my favorites phones that i've used in the past...

The only thing I don't like about that LG is the fact that the phonebook is 200 names instead of 500.

By the way I also forgot to mention that the camera does not have a flash. But when I used my A680 to take pics I never used the flash because the pics with a flash don't really look that great.

I don't think that a camera phone has been released in the US that has a decent flash in the first place. Maybee the 2 mega pixel Samsung on Sprint but I haven't actually seen it yet.

Found something else worth mentioning. The debug screen on the LG 225 has more info than the A680's. It shows the PN offset connected to as well as two of the other PN offsets in it's neighbor list (unlike the A680 which only shows one PN offset at a time). That's cool because I'm always playing around with debug mode.

Was tired of Samsung's software bugs and degrading sound quality. LG is the best right now for sound quality on Sprint. Check out this brand new review of the LG by someone on cnet:

You know, If I was looking for something more basic then I would be tempted IF I was a sprint customer. But I am looking to upgrade a few features anyway. Still, it looks like it could be Sprints newest best seller IF the sales staff actually knew what they were doing. (Not all of them do.)

I understand your desire to move away from a brand that has gone down hill.

I take it this review is just about how you feel as well?

Have you reviewed this on phonescoop yet? I don't see one from you. You should post your review everywere so that people can make informed decisions.
