I've seen pics of the phone branded with the Verizon logo, so it looks like a definite possibility, if it passes testing.

thanks for all the replies. i'm hoping that it will pass testing and be released for verizon before the end of the year. call me naive, but i figured that since verizon already carried a smartphone by kyocera, that all other kyocera phones would be compatible on the verizon network (assuming that they're cdma). guess we'll have to wait and see.

Kyocera only does CDMA in the US market, so all of their phones in the 800mhz band are compatible on VZW, whether Verizon sells them or not.

thanks for the info. so, excuse my ignorance, but does that mean if the slider is not released for vzw, it can be activated on their network via changing/activating the esn online? and if that's the case, what would the process involve, i.e. buying an unlocked phone, flashing it, changing the esn. etc.??

You would need to make sure it's not locked to the original provider's network. (Not sure is Virgin locks their phones, I assume they do.) and then just do the ESN change either online or over the phone. You would most likely need to have a Verizon PRL manually flashed into the phone as well.

Do they change their data connection on new phones. I have a 2235 with a data cable to connect to my Clie, so when it comes time for a new phone a Kyocera would make sense if my data cable will work on the Slider.

what if the phone was bought directly from kyocera? would it still be locked? and how much would it cost to have the PRL flashed by vzw?

To be honest, if you could buy it directly from Kyocera (don't know if/where you can), you can probably unlock it. But there's a Verizon version coming out in January so I don't think you'll need to unlock one.

Can't promise you anything, cause the phone may not pass testing, but it looks that way.

I think it will pass testing, if it passes for one it'll most likely pass for the other. But there are other cases that disprove that but oh well I'm sure it'll be out really early next year.

the way i see it, if the moto T720 slipped under the testing radar (what were they thinking??), then i think other phones, especially ones made by reputable manufacturers, should pass without much problem. besides, what type of rigorous testing does vzw put their phones through that only so few make it, as opposed to other providers? i mean, what happened to all the PTT hype? there hasn't been a peep about any forthcoming PTT phones since the v60p. and with the comeback of candybar style phones, the slider se47 only makes sense as a unique choice in vzw lineup of phones. well, i'm done venting.

I'm sure the slider will pass testing, but there have been phones before that have been scrapped in the testing phases. I just don't want to promise some one it will be released on Verizon only to have it get canned and make me look like a liar. | |
