Auto-Answer incoming data calls - 2035a
I want to use my old Kyocera 2035a with data cable plus an old GPS receiver with a serial port to make a vehicle locator. The gps serial ouput would connect to the data cable serial, and the phone would be set to "DATA ONLY until turned off" plus auto-answer. Then, if I ever want to locate the car I can use any modem to dial the cellphone which would automatically connect as a data call, then the serial data strem would be fed to the caller which would be the raw GPS NMEA output. Once the caller has that info he hangs up and the cellphone waits for the next data call.
This is the theory - I'm waiting for an eBay data cable to arrive to test it...
Can any of you guys give me any poiners as to whether this will or will not work?
Once the data cable is connected is it a simple serial modem just liek any other, that would accept AT commands? OR is some of the modem functionality built into the software which would force me to use a laptop between the GPS and cellphone...?
