Has any one used this plan from Cingluar. For $5.99 per month you get to call other countries for a reduced rate. With the Western Europe part you can all other countries for $0.99 per min while traveling there. Just wanting to make sure they do what they say.

This is probably ok for people spending only a couple days in Europe. Using a prepaid SIM is a better idea for long-term visitors. http://forums.wirelessadvisor.com/showthread.php?t=8351 (Europe SIM Info/Helpful Links)

Agreed. I have an unlocked phone and have always used a pre paid sim while there. The problem with that is local people from home can't call me. Anyone have an experience with the cingular plan? |

Well that's certainly strange. Were they unable to call you when you were in the prepaid SIM's native country or roaming in another country with that same SIM? Normally, that shouldn't be a problem either way.

No my sim worked fine from cingular in london....but I took it out to put in a local sim. The london sim worked great there but then the people from home had to make a international call if they wanted to talk to me. I lke the cingular basics because I have my US number and can answer it in London...but get a reduced rate on calls in London and calling back to the US...Just wanted to see if anyone had used the plan. |

I see, I would prefer the same thing if I was only visiting for a short time. It may be easier to dial a US cell phone # but in the end you have to weigh the costs of roaming and paying for incoming vs the costs of someone making an international call to your foreign SIM which gives you free incoming calls in the foreign SIM's native country. Anyway, if you're over at Howard's Forums (www.howardforums.com), you might want to ask in their Cingular Forum to see if anyone over there has used the Cingular Basics plan.

If someone makes the international call to your cellphone in Europe, they pay less than $.99 a minute, and the call is free on your end.
