I'm a resident of Australia and spend every June and July in Las Vegas. I have a prepaid T-mobile phone number that I top up with 1000 minutes each time I visit so I have been able to keep the same number for many years. The problem I have is that I want to start using the secure code service offered by Bank of America where they send an SMS text message to a US cell number each time you need to complete an on-line transaction. For ten months of the year I need this to be sent to me in Australia but T-mobile will not permit international roaming on my prepaid number and I have spoken to some other carriers who same the same thing. They all say I need to have a plan that is paid through an account but then they tell me I have to have a US address to have the account sent to and a US Social Security no. to obtain credit, neither of which I have. I looked at using the VOIP services offered by Ring Central, TollFreeForwarding, FreeDigits and the like but none of them seem to be able to accept sms text messages. Is there a service, preferably at a reasonable price, that will enable me to accept an SMS text message sent to a US cell phone number while I am in Australia? I don't need to send messages or even make or receive calls, just accept text messages. |

If I recall correctly, the BofA service allows you to receive these alerts via text only emails as well. if your Australian provider has an email where you can receive SMS messages (i.e. Verizon's phonenumber@vtext.com or alias@vtext.com), you may want to give that a try. I also saw this site: International SIM Cards from GOSIM™ - cheap mobile calls from abroad This is based in Estonia, however, they also provide USA based phone numbers in addition to the European number. This may be worth considering. Travel pack Hopefully someone else can chime in with another solution and/or provide an evaluation of GoSim |

Unfortunately, I am not aware of any. And all those international sims that provide a US number such as yackiemobile, maxroam, and the one mentioned above cannot receive sms on the US number. They all have a real/sim number usually from Estonia, Israael, Iceland etc. for receiving sms. The US number is actually forwarded to the real number.
