Welcome to WA. FIrst of all, if a phone gets wet its usually the kiss of death. The best chance for survival hinges on what you do in the following minutes after water exposure. 1. Immediately remove the battery and SIM card. 2. Immediately towel off as much water as possible. 2. Wrap phone and battery separately in a clean cotton cloth and place in a tupperware container filled with either rice or damp-rid. 3. Leave phone alone for several days. When powering up phone for the first time after this immediately backup everything - contacts, texts, emails, pictures. Anything you want to save. Sometimes (rarely) you never have further problems, others the phone may die a slow, painful death over several weeks or months to follow. Most often whatever you do the phone still doesn't work. If you are asking this question because you've already tried to use the phone and it doesn't work then the damage is already done. Its cheaper to buy a new phone than to get that one fixed. -Jay

The problem is that there are extremely tight tolerances in the manufacture of the circuit boards in cell phones to make them as small and lightweight as possible. Because of this some deposited minerals from the water could cause a short circuit on the board and fry components. The boards are so small that they are not repairable - if there's a problem with the board it must be replaced. By the time you pay someone to take it apart and fix it you will have a new phone in your old housing for probably at least as much as a new phone will cost, maybe more. I am just trying to be as honest as possible. I've seen it too many times where people paid to have their phones "fixed" without replacing the boards, and then the phone dies in a few months and they buy a new phone anyway. Rarely does a phone survive this kind of treatment. I know of only 2 instances where the phone survived with no long term damage. My sister dropped her Nokia in the toilet @ work 5 years ago and it was actually better afterwards. It was hard to hear her before it got wet, afterwards you could hear her clearly. 3 or 4 years ago my niece dropped her Motorola V180 in a pond. She got it really wet. When she took it out it was dripping red water from all the water indicators getting wet. Took the battery out for a few days to let it dry out and it still works to this day. Like I said, its most important to take immediate action. Once you've tried to use the phone and it didn't work its a bit too late. -Jay

I'm glad you got your phone working for now, but be aware that you may start having problems again. We see it all the time here. Someone gets a phone wet, pays to have it fixed, and the phone still dies a few months later. -Jay
