TELUS introduces BlackBerry Pearl 8130, and new add-on Data offering for consumers
Monday November 5, 11:00 am ET

BlackBerry Pearl 8130 with silver-coloured finish features access to Facebook, multimedia support and 2 megapixel camera
VANCOUVER, Nov. 5 /CNW/ - TELUS today announced the availability of the BlackBerry(R) Pearl(TM) 8130 and a new $15 add-on Data offering, which are designed to introduce consumers to the multimedia features and the popular connectivity benefits of the BlackBerry(R) solution. The BlackBerry Pearl 8130 is the first BlackBerry Pearl designed to operate on EVDO CDMA technology and boasts access to Canada's fastest coast-to-coast mobile network enabling clients to get the most from their mobile-data usage.

The silver-coloured BlackBerry Pearl 8130 from TELUS is the newest model in the popular BlackBerry Pearl line-up. An ideal phone for consumers looking for email and web access along with support for multimedia applications, it features the ability to listen to music, take pictures, watch and record videos, and have plenty of storage via microSD/SDHC expandable memory. The BlackBerry Pearl 8130 will also be the first BlackBerry smartphone in Canada to include the Facebook(R) for BlackBerry(R) Smartphones application ready for download with a preinstalled icon on the Home Screen.

"Consumers are increasingly looking for phones that enable them to stay entertained and have access to email, Web browsing, and Facebook, one of today's most popular social networking sites. The BlackBerry Pearl 8130 provides the exceptional BlackBerry smartphone user experience that Canadians have embraced, plus a slew of multimedia features in a stunning design that is perfect for a day at the office or a night on the town," said Stephen Ospalak, TELUS vice-president of Subscriber Equipment. "With our new add-on data plan for only $15, TELUS is making data available at a low cost to a new group of consumers who are looking for convenient access to email on the go. TELUS is a leader in offering affordable mobile data with a range of plans to meet all needs, from the entry-level casual user to the mobile professional or road-warrior."

TELUS' new Email 15 add-on Data plan is designed specifically for the entry-level user and available for use with BlackBerry smartphones, including the BlackBerry Pearl 8130. Available to clients using the BlackBerry(R) Internet Service and select TELUS voice plans, Email 15 provides customers with the equivalent of approximately 600 emails each month for only $15.

Adding to the advanced multimedia features of the BlackBerry Pearl 8130 from TELUS is a 2 megapixel camera with 5x digital zoom and powerful flash, as well as video capture capability. To get the most of video viewing or Web surfing, the BlackBerry Pearl 8130 has a large, high resolution display that brings images, videos and web pages to life, and its built-in light sensing technology automatically adjusts the display and keyboard lighting for optimal viewing in outdoor, indoor and dark environments.

For access to mobile data at broadband-like speeds, the BlackBerry Pearl 8130 operates on Canada's fastest coast-to-coast mobile network. Whether sending photos from a night on the town, staying connected to friends via Facebook or exchanging emails, the EVDO network takes the wait out of accessing data while enjoying life where it happens rather than having to be tied to a computer.

"Within its amazingly small, light and elegant form the BlackBerry Pearl 8130 delivers a full-featured phone with unrivaled email and messaging capabilities, EVDO speeds for web browsing on TELUS' nationwide CDMA network, a camera to capture and share special moments, a media player to keep you entertained, an organizer to keep you on top of your day and built-in GPS to help get you where you're going," said Mark Guibert, vice president, Corporate Marketing at Research In Motion.

TELUS is also pleased to announce the future availability of a limited edition BlackBerry Pearl 8130 Gift Box for the Holiday Season. The limited edition BlackBerry Pearl 8130 Gift Box will include the sleek and stylish BlackBerry Pearl 8130 smartphone and an elegant Links of London leather carrying case, designed exclusively for TELUS.

The BlackBerry Pearl 8130 is available from TELUS for as little as $199.99 on a three-year contract or $499.99 without a contract. The Blackberry Pearl 8130 Gift Box will be introduced later this month at $229.99 on a three-year contract or $529.99 without a contact.
