French Mobile Operator to Extend Scanbuy 2D Barcode Pilot Program Positive Results Seen to Date
Monday October 29, 11:39 am ET

NEW YORK, Oct. 29 /PRNewswire/ -- Scanbuy, Inc. (scanbuy.com), a global provider of mobile marketing solutions, announced the extension of a 2D barcode pilot program with SFR in France. The service called "Flashcode" has received positive results after launching with public trials in late July.

Scanbuy's 2D barcode capture technology allows the camera phone to connect the physical world to the digital world. Scanbuy is providing the barcode reading software and the barcode generation platform for SFR during the "Flashcode" pilot phase.

SFR, a joint venture between Vodafone and Vivendi, currently has more than 18 million subscribers with a rapidly expanding 3G subscriber base. "SFR has always been an innovator in bringing new technology and services to the French market. We are truly excited to be partnering with them to shape how the French consumer will use their mobile device as the interactive tool of the future." said Jonathan Bulkeley, Chief Executive Officer of Scanbuy, Inc.

2D Barcodes Connect Magazine Readers to Multi-Operator Gallery Service

The Flashcode pilot includes participation from France's three largest publishing houses (Lagardere, Prisma and Mondadori). The initial publications to use the codes are weekly celebrity magazines including Voici, Public, and Closer which have a combined readership of approximately eight million people. One of these publications is already reporting that almost one-third of their mobile traffic is coming from Flashcodes.

The 2D decoder technology also gives their readers immediate access to an existing multi-operator service called Gallery. This existing joint service, between SFR, Orange and Bouygues, offers an extensive collection of mobile content including news, downloads, and banking services.

Additionally, SFR will deploy codes around the 2nd District of Paris which in cooperation with the city is being called the "Digital Neighborhood" and is used to test a number of innovative technologies. 2D codes will be placed on approximately 80 bus stops to provide real time scheduling information, and at retail locations for access to information.

Wister, one of the leading mobile content providers in France, will continue to be Scanbuy's primary marketing partner in that country. The existing relationship with Scanbuy has resulted in nearly two hundred thousand downloads of the application from the internet in less than a year. Their codes have also been used to promote movie releases and to facilitate local public services.
