Palm Canada to Place Treo Smartphones in Hands of Budding Filmmakers at No Charge; Consumer Loan Program to Support Creation of Mobile Movie Shorts for "Caught on Treo" Category
TORONTO, Oct. 18 /CNW/ - Palm Canada today announced Treo - Take One!, an innovative consumer loan program to make Palm(R) Treo(TM) smartphones available on a loan basis to aspiring filmmakers submitting mobile movies for Treo Mobifest Toronto 2007. Film submissions for the Best "Caught on Treo" Short Shorts category must be shot on a Treo smartphone and run no more than 30 seconds. The deadline for submission is Oct. 31.
"Filmmaking talent runs deep in Canada, yet not everyone has the financial means or tools available to bring their creative ideas to life," said Michael Moskowitz, vice president, Americas International, Palm, Inc. "The notion of signing out a Treo smartphone as one would sign out a book from the library - albeit on a much smaller scale - is a great way to support Mobifest and Canadians' fascinations with consumer-generated content."

Treo Movie Making - Tips & Tricks

- Add graphics - Don't depend solely on audio - it's not a
requirement. Use graphics to tell the story as well.
- Use subtitles - Remember the small screen. If using subtitles or
other words on the screen, make them big.
- Follow the light - Take videos in bright lighting conditions. For
low-light or night shooting you can try the following:
- Shed more light on the object before capturing the video;
- Shoot near a lamp, window or other light source; or
- Move to brighter lighting environments, such as a well-lit office
or outside in daylight.

Things to remember:

- Don't take videos with the subject in front of a light.
- The brightest light source should be behind the videographer, so
it illuminates the subject's face.

- Avoid wide shots - When shooting, keep in mind that people are
watching on a small screen. Wide shots cause movies to lose detail.
- A steady hand is key - Mobile filmmaking doesn't work well with fast
pans, zooms or shaky running movements. Establish steady, clean shots.
- Time is of the essence - Keep your video short; ideal length is less
than one minute.
