Deutsche Telekom to Market iPhone in Germany - Source

Deutsche Telekom is to gain exclusive marketing rights for Apple's iPhone in Germany, a person close to the matter told Dow Jones Newswires Friday.

In return for exclusive marketing rights, Deutsche Telekom's T-Mobile will pay Apple a share of iPhone sales, the person said.

Deutsche Telekom declined to comment on the matter.

Another person close to the matter told Dow Jones Newswires that T-Mobile competitor Vodafone Group was also interested in the marketing rights for the much-lauded iPhone, but stepped back from a potential deal partly because of a 10% share in sales demanded by Apple.

Vodafone was also not Apple's first choice, as customers could not download music through the internet with Vodafone as a service provider, the person added.

I am curious to see how well iPhone sales will go in Germany. I know T-Mobile and Vodafone are neck and neck, subscriber wise, with T-Mobile having a few more than Vodafone.
If I ever moved back there, I would get a cheap flatrate from one of the other carriers and not pay a single dime to either Vodafone or T-Mobile. They are simply too expensive.
