I will be in Israel for two weeks. I will need to call back to USA every few days and receive emergency calls. What do you recommend?

Take an unlocked GSM phone with you, one that supports at least 1800 MHz (if not 900 MHz and 1800 MHz). Get a prepaid SIM card from either Cellcom or Orange. Distribute your Israeli phone number (011-972-whatever) to the people in the U.S.

I agree with the prior poster. I was only adding the roaming SIMs also work there with free incoming calls. If you travel frequently, they are sometimes a better deal.

If you've got a good international calling plan, calling an Israeli mobile is cheap. If you want to subsidize the call, you can sign up for a free US phone number from Voicestick.com and call forward the calls to your Israeli mobile.
