Does anyone know what the dialing codes are if I'm trying to call a mobile phone in Argentina from Hawaii? The directions I've found on the web, like eliminating the 15 at the start of any mobile number don't work. I'm going to be traveling to Argentina and have purchased an Argentina SIM for my unlocked RAZR, but I don't know how family and friends will be able to ring me because the dialing codes I've found don't work. Please help! |

Just dial +(country code) and then the number (maybe you have to leave off the "0" if it starts with 0. Example: For me to call a number inside Switzerland would be 078-123-4567 (078 is the operator specific dialing code, then the rest is the individual number) But if you were to call this number from Hawaii, you'd have to dial +41781234567 (+ must always be the first digit when calling abroad, then 41 is the country code for Switzerland, and then the rest...noticed the "0" is gone) |

I'm assuming you have a Buenos Aires-based mobile (which is area code 11), so you would have people dial 011-54-9-11-1234567 (or whatever your seven digits are). You can replace the 011 on a GSM cell phone with +, or you can just dial 011, it doesn't matter. It's 011 - 54 - 9 - area code - number... and the number is everything after "15" in the "local" version of the number, so if you were given 154981234 as your number, you would have people dial 011-54-9-11-4981234.

I'm actually traveling to Mendoza, not Buenos Aires. When I dial landline numbers there I have to dial 011 54 261, the 011 54 9 then 11 doesn't work for Mendoza mobiles. Is that because I have to dial 011 54 9 then 61 and the 7 digit number?

If the area code is 261, then for mobiles in Mendoza you will dial 011-54-9-261 and the number, or +549261 and the number. All you do is prepend a "9" before the area code and number, but after the country code. "I want an international call (011) to Argentina (54), to a mobile (9), to Mendoza (261), to this number (1234567)."

Oh my God thank you ZaphodB! You are the master! The dialing code you suggested 011+54+9+261 totally worked! I am so stoked! My family thanks you and I thank you for helping me out before I pack my bags and leave everyone in Hawaii panicking because they can't get in touch with me! |
