Default Sending Text Messages to Korean Cell Phone

I have some colleagues in Korea. Is there a mechanism (say a website portal) to send SMS messages from the U.S. to a Korean mobile phone? Just sending one from my mobile phone to his doesn't work (even though I can place a voice call to his phone). Curious....

Find out the name of the Korean provider, and check it's website. Most providers have a link to sending text messages (good luck reading Korean), try zingy.com, they allow for the sending of text messages, but I'm not sure if they allow for a Korean Network. Either way, search and you will find it.

I dont know if anyone needs to know this anymore just just in case

if you ever need to message to S Korea, enter 011-82
and you must drop the first zero of the phone number.
ps, all korean phones, regardless of whether its a cell or line with the area code starts with a zero
so example would be
011-82-10-1235-3567 would be the correct way to message =]

Wow, I started this thread over 4 years ago, and suddenly there was a post today from sungmi. Well, in the meantime I have come up with a solution to my initial problem. If I am back home in the USA and need to text to Korea, I use a internet service called "ipipi". This service sends SMS messages to any country from your computer, and you can also send a text message with their service from your cell phone. It's not perfect, the main issue for me is that you can't send Korean language messages, but it does work.

I have occassionally tried to send text messages just the "normal" way phone to phone from Korea to USA and from USA to Korea. My results are spotty. Sometimes it works, often times it doesn't. My mobile phone carrier in the USA is T-Mobile, and in Korea SK Telecom.

well sending it from the US to Korea should be no problem. And when the message is going back to the states, it all depends what service they use. Like I had a LGT and if I used 00700 or 002 the message sent with no problem. but if i used like anything else like 00365 the message would arrive to my ex as a page.

From my SKT phone, I use 00700-1 + the 10 digit US phone number to send texts to US numbers.

From the US, I use 011-82 + the 9 or 10 digit Korean mobile phone number without the beginning "0".
