I am moving to Canada on a full time basis. I currently own a really good quad band phone in the UK that is SIM free. I thought that when I move to Canada I could take out a contract with one of the telecom providers who would then issue me with a SIM card to insert in my current phone. Someone has told me that there are no SIM cards in Canada unless you want a pay as you go service. Is this true or can I get a conventional contract with a telecom provider and use my existing UK purchased phone with a SIM card they provide? If it makes any difference I am going to live in Vancouver |

Canada has SIM cards for both contract and prepaid. The GSM service provider in Canada is Rogers and as well as their whowly owned subsidiary Fido. Since you have a quad-band phone there should be no problem getting on 850MHz and 1900MHz which are both used by Rogers. Sign up with Rogers, put the SIM in your phone and you should be good to go.
