Colombia fastest growing LatAm GSM market in 2005
Colombia was the fastest growing Latin American market for GSM users last year, rising to third place in terms of total users from its sixth place ranking in 2004, local daily La República reported.

Brazil led the pack at the end of 2005 with 88.4 million GSM users, followed by Mexico with 46.6 million and Colombia with 21.8 million. Argentina has some 20.7 million GSM users, Chile 11.5 million and Venezuela 11.1 million.

The increase in Colombia's GSM ranking meant it overtook Argentina, Chile, Ecuador and Peru.

There are over 240 million GSM users in Latin America, representing 52% of the mobile market.

Globally GSM technology has a pool of 2.16 billion users, with 11.1% located in Latin America and 10.4% in North America, 3G Américas regional director Erasmo Rojas was quoted as saying.
