Does anyone know if the updated software version for the v60C (ver. 2200.01.2B) is available in Canada? Can it be downloaded and flashed? I have the USB cable. Thanks JC |

Yes, you can do it via USB-data-cable only if you have the correct flash file

This latest version has a calculator and games. Plus there is a bug in my current software that I am hoping was resolved in the new version. There is a ringer bug in the software where the ringer locks in silent mode.

This sounds like the software version that is in the v60ci that has yet to be released by Telus. My understanding is that you will need the flex version in order to flash this software into a v60c. Even if you have a cable and the pst you wont be able to flash this without a flex version and dongle. Do you know if this software will allow for full duplex operation with the hard install carkit I am getting conflicting stories from everyone I talk to.

I am referring to the v60ci software. Do you know if Telus will ever release this software? What's a flex version, how does it differ from the shx file? What's a dongle? I thought you just flash the phone with the flash software that is included with the PST. Sorry, I don't have any info on the car kit. |

The flex version is different than the software version. the flex version holds all of the operating parameters like the menu.logic and rf parameters. it is basically its operating system so to speak. I am currently working on getting a definitive answer from Telus on their willingness to support this. I get conflicting stories from Motorola and Telus when I press this issue.Telus says this would be up to Motorola and Motorola says this would be up to Telus,so around I go . If had the software I would not be able to flash it as this requires the flex and that can only be done by Motorola or a Motorola Master repair Centre. They hold the key as Motorola does not hand out Flex dongles (protection keys) to anyone not even Level three repair Centres. This flex dongle basically unlocks certain features on the PST to allow for flex version changes,SPC unlocking ect..This seems to be very low priority for Telus and Motorola as they really dont want to look back but instaed go forward with the v60ci. If you have a v60c seems like they want you accept it for what it is and if you dont like it then pay full retail for the Ci.This to me is very weak as the v60ci is an attempt at an improvement. New style antenna, better backlight, changeable covers,700mahbattery (instead of the 500 mah) improved earpice design, new menu with calculator and games. I will keep plugging at Telus and Motorola until I get a definitive answer one way or the other. Stay Posted. |

Thank you for your response. My phone's SPC is unlocked, would I still need the Flex dongle? Also, in the US the firmware upgrade is done by Verizon stores, so it must be able to be done by others besides Motorola's service centres. |

The flex dongle allows for certain procedures to be done within motorolas cdma support studio software. The ability to reflex a phone is locked out without the dongle. Iam almost certain that in order for the v60ci software to be flashed into a 60c it would require the flex version as well. there are to many changes in the user interface to not require the flex. I will talk to my contacts at Telus and Motorola to let you know what is required.

Thanks. I am assuming the dongle is a peice of hardware, because PST comes with the option of "pflex"? |

You are correct sir!! without the dongle you are locked out of the flex area of the pst. you can still flash phones but not the software that requires a flex. I have run into this before when I came across some early flex versions in the st7868 that were not truesync compatable and were not flashable due to an incompatable flex version. Just a note the only software upgrade that iam aware of in canada was offered to bell customers and it was 2100.03.36 and it too has a different flex version . All of the other cdma carriers (including Telus) currently use the same software/flex version.

Would you happen to know if as a Telus customer I can go in to a Verizon store in the US and get the update? Also, I hear that the v60i is coming to Telus, if so, will the software update be available then? |

I would hold on and not do it in the us as there are too many variables. Firstly verizon will load their PRL which could affect your performance in ontario. As you most likely know the prl determines your carrier prefference while roaming.I will find out what software Telus has approved for their v60ci as it may be different than the one verizon is offering. I feel very stupid that i did not check the software version on the v60ci when I had one in my hand last week. The v60ci has been approved by Telus at the start of March and will be expected to roll out to stores at the end of the month. This should never be taken as gospel as there are many contributing factors which often delay a launch. The most common delay is that Telus may have too much inventory of the v60c and have to deplete it before they launch any thing new. I would wait until this phone is launched and then pursue the flash. You may want to look into talking to A master repair centre like Futretel after the ci has been released, maybee they can help. I know that futretel in B.C. was charging $10 for flashing Lg520 for non essential upgrades so my guess is that it would be comprable if they do in fact offer one for Motorola.

I will probably wait until the v60ci comes out, as I wil not be to the US in the next while. I will be able to update the PRL over the air, and any other settings I have saved on the PST software. |

Here is the latest info directly from my contacts at Telus and Motorola. Motorola Tells me that the v60ci software is compatable but there are very critical steps to be taken in order for your phone to not become a brick. The current software that you have in your phone is considered by motorola to be very old. in order for the flash to work your phone will need multiple flex and flash versions performed before the ci software and flex can be put into your phone and not following this will cause your phone to be un useable. Motorola says this proceedure should under no circumstances be performed in the field without the proper roadmap. So essentially what motorola is saying is that it is possible but the 2100.01.2f.02 software and cs4tls01t1na1b flex version cannot be directly changed with the ci software and flex.

Thanks for your continued input. Did you find out if the upgrade will be availabe to current Telus v60c owners once the v60i is released? Also, if it is so complicated to perform the upgrade how are the individual Verizon stores performing the upgrade? Maybe they each have the dongle and multiple flex files. |
