I'm going to be spending time in Canada soon and would like to know what the GSM situation is in/around Niagra falls and Toronto and the area between. Also, can anyone recommend a place to buy prepaid sims for those areas? Thanks! |

You may be able to get away with not roaming if you are right over the border in Niagara falls. I had full signal last time I was there and was picking up a tower just accross the border in New York state. In terms of Toronto...sorry can't help you there.

tims, You should have sufficient T-Mobile coverage on the US side of Niagara Falls and quite possibly some areas of the Canadian side just over the border as discjoker has implied. As soon as you get off that US based tower you'll start getting nabbed for roaming rates which I think is $0.69/minute. Might want to think about picking up a Fido SIM card especially for when you are in Toronto. I grabbed an unactivated one off of ebay for a little over $10. When it's time for you to travel you can activate it with a plan of your choice. Buying a SIM when you get in Canada I believe will cost you $25.00. Depending on how many minutes you plan to use it may be an option. Here is the Fido prepaid info: http://www.fido.ca/portal/en/packages/prepaid.shtml I can't say that I've been to either place yet with my fairly new GSM handset. But when I do venture up to Canada, NF and TOR is where I go. I've been told this is the way to go if you plan to make more than just a couple of calls. Please let me know how you make out. |
