Right, so my wife and I, for our first anniversary, are thinking of flying up to Halifax, renting an auto, and driving about for a couple of weeks. We'd like to hit Moncton and St. John (NB), Yarmouth, New Glasgow, and Halifax (NS), Charlottetown and Summerside (PEI), and possibly Cape Breton Island.

Naturally, with all that driving, I want a cell phone with me that's going to work.

What providers have service up there? I as-sume GSM is right out.

The best coverage in the area is Aliant Mobility - CDMA coverage, second best is Rogers ATT - TDMA and they have recently installed a GSM network. I believe FIDO has limited GSM coverage in the Halifax area. T-Mobile will roam on FIDO, but not Rogers I believe. If you have an old analog or TDMA phone you probably use it on Rogers prepaid service for out going calls only. Rogers don't have great coverage in rural areas of Cape Breton once you leave the main highways, but is good in most towns and cities.
