I don't think CDMA phones can be unlocked like GSM phones

The Samsung a500 can be unlocked and used in Canada (according to Telus) as long Sprint releases the phone ie. provides you with a master unlock code, which they won't easily give out.

Based on a North American agreement between most service providers, Sprint should provide the master codes to Telus but ONLY after you have been on Sprint Contract for 6 months or agree to pay the price difference. CDMA phones CAN be unlocked but you have to find providers who carry that specific phone version since you have to end up activating it with the provider unlike GSM where you put in a SIM. For unlock service contact Kevin@bongowireless.com he should be able to help you with all your questions. They are located in Toronto and I have used their services! They are pretty much decent people. Please mention my Email Payam@rogers.com when emailing him so he knows I sent you to him. Thanks. Ciao |

The phone you have is a CDMA phone. I'm guessing you are trying to use it with Bell or Telus? Don't bother trying because Telus or Bell will outright refuse to activate phones that aren't sold by them. You'll need a new phone. On the otherhand, if you had a GSM phone from the states, those could be unlocked so that you will be able to use Fido or Rogers here in Canada. --- Allan Tsui your cellular phone unlocking specialist... http://www.unlockvancouver.com Tel: 604-719-6888 |

Best way to unlock for sure is via code. Just let us know your IMEI number and we can reply wth your unlock code. There is no risk to your warranty or change to your phone. It simply becomes unlocked. Local to Vancouver Rogers and Fido can be unlocked within a couple hours. |

Images: 157 | Contact a reputable dealer and have it done. If you find someone on the internet that can do it for you send them the IMEI via email or PM. Posting your IMEI in a public forum opens you up to the possibility of someone cloning your phone and making calls that you will be billed for. -Jay

To get your phone unlocked you will need to send the unlock company your IMEI number. To get it you press *#06# They will process the unique unlock code for your phone and then send back with instructions. There is a chance that your service provider may provide you the unlock code for free though. The process usually is slower than getting from an unlock company but you can save a few bucks. Just tell them that you are planning to go abroad and that you need to use the phone with a local carrier. |
