I'm going to be in Vancouver next week and I was wandering where I can purchase a cell phone with out the service. I only want to buy the phone it self and take it back with me. I'm interested in phones like Ericsson T68i and Nokia 7650. Stores with a web site will be great, so I can view the price and maybe order. |

If you do that, you're going to pay a lot because most companies offer a discount with a 1/2 yr commitment. No contract, no discount, and full price is expensive, even on outdated phones like the Nokia 5100. At least, that's how it is for Cingular, and most of what I've seen has been the same with others. Or buy a phone off eBay (just be careful).

You can buy a prepaid phone once you get there. I know that both Fido (the local GSM provider) and Telus Mobility (who operates a 1900MHz CDMA network and 800MHz CDMA/analog networks) offer prepaid calling plans. That's probably your best bet, as finding a phone here that you can activate with a Canadian carrier will be difficult.
