Default Telus - Rural - No Service

I really hope someone can help me out. I signed up with Clearnet a few years ago, and had excellent service. Even living out in the boonies I got a great signal, that was digital most of the time.

Telus then purchased Clearnet, and things started getting worse. First I lost digital completely. Then I lost the ability to make any calls. I have been talking to Telus employees, techs, etc for close to a year now. Everyone has a different excuse for the poor service, and everyone offers different advice.

A few months ago, I managed to luck out and get a new employee, he went on and on about why I couldn't get service. He said "The tower by your house was taken down". I asked why and he said "Telus is cutting costs". He also said it would not be going back up any time soon. He also said the reason you can't place calls, even with your new phone (The one Telus said FOR SURE would work out here) is because the T300 will not attempt an analog connection if it even detects a remote digital signal.

Basically in summary, he said I was screwed. He also mentioned that Telus did not want people using Analog, so the ability to force a phone into analog would not be an option now or ever.

So now I'm on my 3rd phone (yes, I don't learn), it's a nice T300, and I can't use it at all. Just today I called to cancel my phone and all of a sudden they have a suggestion. They want me to puchase an old Motorola Timeport or 7860. Apparently, they can be switched to analog. However, they are not nice phones, and I would prefer it if my T300 could be used.

So, what I would like to know is if there is ANY way at all to force my phone into analog. I do not care if I have to do it every time I want to make a call. My land line is extremely bad (can you say tin can and string) and a cell is my only alternative. There has to be a solution, other than getting rid of my phone and downgrading...?

From the manual for your phone:

---cut here---

Set Network

Your phone is preset to digital mode. If you wish to place a call in
analog mode use this menu. Your phone allows you to search for
analog service.

To Set Network:

1. Press menu to display the menu.
2. Press * for Setup.
3. Press 8 for Set Network.
4. Press the arrow keys to scroll between the options, and then click to select.

Networks: The phone allows for the following options:
  • Automatic
    1-Time Analog Call

Automatic - Automatically looks for all forms of service (1.9 MHZ,
800 MHZ, AMPS) according to the PRL (Preferred Roaming List)
supplied by the carrier.

1-Time Analog Call - Automatically switches the phone into analog
mode for one call. When the call is completed, the phone
automatically resets to the normal setting.

Hope this helps!
