hi, i bought my 8890 nokia from hk and it works there. when i brought it back to canada, got the simcard from the local providers, it says the providers name on the phone but except when you're making a phone call, it keep saying "network busy". should be connected already to the provider but for somewhat reason can't make a call. any idea why? |

Have you contacted Fido about this issue?

no i'm actually with rogers and not with fido. they told me though that it's not the phone problem but it's the network GSM problem that's not very good in canada. but that shouldn't be the issue since it's a US phone. so they told me to return it to nokia if it's still under warranty. i'm not sure what nokia is going to do about it. any other way if i can just order some parts from nokia instead of sending my phone there...'cause i just don't like sending away my brand new phone for 3-4 weeks. |

IT would be a network problem and not a phone problem. IF the network is not as strong then the ANY phone will not perform well Jack

yeah..i know but then many people are using this phone and that's because they bought it in canada/U.S. whereas i bought it outside canada/u.s. so i mean, this is not right though...i should be able to at least change some parts to be the same as the other 8890 over here |

OK.. that doesn't make any sense... Rogers claims the network is weak and they're having network issues, but they're telling you to send your phone back? That sounds like a cop-out to me. The 8890's sold in other countries should be no different than the ones sold here in the US, so I don't think Nokia would change anything in the phone. There's always the slight possibility of a phone with outdated firmware. You may wish to call Nokia USA and ask them what the latest firmware for your phone is and how/where to get it flashed if yours isn't the newest.

are you referring firmware as some kind of "BIOS in pc" ? so, technically do i need to send this phone to somewhere else to flash the firmware or i can do it myself? and personally i think your statement makes a perfect sense as i've always thought the same way too. |

this is what i'm worried about...i'm pretty sure i've got the latest ver of firmware. it says V12.20 19-09-01 NSB-6 when i checked using *#0000# but then i'm wondering...for the IMEI info, the FAC number is 30 which is korea. does that matter or what? i think it just means it was assembled in korea right? |

Nokia should be able to tell you what the latest firmware for the 8890 is.... You may very well have the latest version, who knows? But it's something I'd look into just to make sure.
