Default Israel

I may be travelling back to Israel this summer (planning early). Does anyone know the best pre-paid carrier when it comes to calling back to the US and calling locally? Plus coverage would be a plus, too . I will mainly be in Jerusalem, Tel-Aviv, and Haifa but areas in between would be good if they were covered, too. Thanks for any help!

PS: Advices on prepaid SIM's for my V600 would be good, too. But I still want to know about new phones.

Both Orange (GSM 900) and Cellcom (GSM 1800 plus 800 MHz TDMA) have excellent coverage throughout the country. They both offer prepaid SIMS which can be recharged from automatic kiosks located all over the country.

Cellcom is the largest provider, and in network calling is cheaper than calling another network or a landline. Therefore, unless your circle of friends is mostly on Orange, you will have a lower call cost by using Cellcom.

You will most likely not want to buy a phone in Israel. Not only are they expensive; they are all locked. Subsidized phones are only available to contract subscribers.

Cellcom

Orange

You might want to check out Amigo (Nextel) they have some pretty good rates, I read about this before, was kind of shocked how good of a deal it is.

Amigo

They rent you the phone for a good rate and the rate per minute back to the US is good also.
