Hi, I bought a blackberry 7230 on ebay and it's a t-mobile unit, t-mobile will unlock a phone for a customer who has been with them for more than 90 days, but I am in canada and was hoping I could get it unlocked. I don't have a t-mobile account so I'm SOL. Does anyone here have any connections at RIM or maybe some way to get the unlock code from my IMEI? any help would be MUCH appreciated, I noticed someone saying they could unlock a bell blackberry with the ESN so maybe I'll have some luck. Worst case scenario I might have to get a US friend to sign me up for 90 days I guess. |

Go check in the Marketplace section... there are ways round that... some places will do it for you (you send them the phone, they send it back unlocked). It's just a mathematical algorithm...

I need advice. I recently imported from the US an unlocked T-Mobile 7230 which appears to be unused and I suspect any refurbishment was the unlocking. It works perfectly well as a mobile phone with a Vodafone (Australia) SIM as it has the requisite GMS, GPRS capabilities. However my only links with Vodafone Live are thru txt messages (eg news, weather, etc) as data transmission is refused. Also the T.Mobile logo appears on the main screen so obviously some T.Mobile software is still embedded in the unit. Could it be that 'unlocking' it did no more than enable the use of other compatible SIM cards but it still remains a T-Mobile phone? Question: Is there a means of cleaning out the resident T-Mobile software from this unlocked 7230 so that its inherent capabilities can be fully realised? Sorry this is a rather lengthy query, gents, but I hope someone can help! Cheers Cobber |

Hi Cobber, if your BlackBerry works with other sim cards, but only some options don't work, that's mean you have software problem. Yes, there is small possibility during the unlock by software to demage your phone, but the problems which you have do not seems to be from unlocking software. When you want to unlock your phone, try to use always the most safe metod, it is by entering unlock code. Usualy it is generated only by IMEI of your phone.
