Default US T-Mobile SIM and an Egyptian Mobilnil SIM

I just bought an iMate K-Jam phone that is unlocked. I have accepted a 3 year contract to live and work in Cairo, Egypt. I want to use the K-Jam phone in Egypt using the Mobilnil sim while in Egypt and then when I go to the US use the T-Mobile sim in the US. That gives me a local number so I don't have to pay the expensive international roaming. Can I change the sim card whenever I want and will this work. Any suggestions for a better way of doign this?

Yes, you can change SIM cards anytime you want on an unlocked phone and it will work fine. The only isuues you may run into is for MMS and internet you have to have the settings for MobiNil or T-Mobile depending on which one you are trying to access.

You probably found this out already but Cairo seems to have fantastic cell coverage everywhere both by MobiNil and Vodaphone Egypt.

Eddie,

welcome to WA. If you have PocketPC-related questions, you should consider visiting XDA-Developers.com. They have loads of info on things pertaining to the various PocketPCs made by HTC and Eten.

Hi Shores, thanks but I believe Eddie's question was not related to Pocket-PC but can he change SIM cards whenever he needs to on his unlocked phone. Which is really a general GSM cell phone question.

As good as XDA-Developers.com is, this question does not really need their help.

Just my 2 cents...

Thanks, I referred him to XDA-Developers for non-Egypt related questions .

Charlyee, do you know if it is possible to set up the phone with both settings? Or will I have to do a setup change everytime I move from one place to another?

Could you elaborate on which settings you're asking about? Do you mean just GPRS, SMS or MMS settings? Most phones will allow you to keep multiple setting profiles on the phone. The same goes for PocketPCs. PocketPCs store their settings under several different categories. On Windows Mobile 2003, you'll find them in the following spots (will differ for Windows Mobile 5):

GPRS:
Start --> Settings --> Connections Tab --> GPRS Settings (specify GPRS type/connection categories) and the profiles are added/edited under --> Connections.

SMS:
Start --> Inbox --> Extras Tab --> New Account for new SMS profile or --> Accounts for existing SMS profiles.

MMS:
Start --> Programs --> MMS Composer.

I'll add more info later.

Eddie.
Hi Eddie, yes it is possible to set up the phone with both settings. I have a QTEK 9100 that I have set up with both T-Mobile and Cingular settings. You just have to remember to set as "default" whichever one you are going to use for the time being.

Hope this helps..

I didn't know that you were back in the Pocket PC club, Charlyee . Are you using it as your primary phone?

Shores, I sure got your attention there, didn't I?

To answer your question, yes I am using it as my primary phone right now, although I keep switching with my 6682. I love everything that the QTEK can do and do without problems and the vast customization possible. The only reason I keep going back to the 6682 is that the QTEK's reception, althougth excellent is not as great as the 6682. The camera on the 6682 is also better but that would not be a reason for decision making at all.
