I arrived in Tokyo yesterday. I went down to the DoMoCo counter and my 3G phone was waiting for me. In less than 4 minutes, the girl took my SIM card and popped it into the Moto A835 GSM/3G phone, the network found and I was ready to go.

Seems to be working well, even an hour south of tokyo. I can roam on both Vodaphone and DoMoCo. SMS working find too. My SIM based phone book and SMS showed right up on the new phone.

The little 5 way joy stick is awful...too touchy. Otherwise standard type phone, BT, video,still, IR and so on.

It's nice to have my US phone number working in Japan. It went to good use right away, since a little home emergency came up when I arrived. the SMS was waiting for me after the phone found the network!

But this A835 phone is big!! In fact, I noticed that all the japanese phones have grown in size. The screens are bigger, but the phones look like they are from years ago, even the flips. I guess styles change. See the photo below comparing my 6230 and the A835. It' also about 50% thicker too.
