3G roaming in Japan

I'll be in Japan in the next month or two. Apparently I'll be able to use my Cingular SIM to roam on the GSM 3G (W-CDMA/UMTS) network. The phone rental is $4.30 a day for a Moto A835 (http://www.phonescoop.com/phones/phone.php?p=337) with DoCoMo. Usage minutes are charged back to Cingular. Vodafone also has roaming agreements with Cingular on 3G. Pretty neat. Anyone done this in Japan?
