Wow, talking on the phone is one thing, it distracts you but completely looking away for the road for even 10-15 seconds can be exceptionally dangerous. How can they do that? While awareness of the dangers of using a handheld mobile phone while driving has doubled in the past year, new Telstra research shows more than half of Australian motorists aged under 30 may still be reading SMS while at the wheel. In the lead up to the Queen's Birthday long weekend, Telstra's Head of Consumer Marketing, Ms Jenny Young, said the 2004 'Drive Safe. Phone Safe' Survey had found that more than a quarter (28 per cent) of all drivers admitted reading SMS while driving. "The research also found that 58 per cent of motorists surveyed aged 17 to 29 admitting to looking down at their mobile phones to read text messages," Ms Young said. Story Link
