OrthoMan, First off to WA!

Their are quite a few phones with Cingular/AT&T that have good RF. It would help us narrow the choices if you gave a little more info on some features you want.

Hi. I, too, was wonfering what people think.

Currently, in my family, we have two V505 and two V220 on ATT. We got them in October. While my reception in Philadelphia is fine, my parents, who live in Buffalo, have trouble at our home. Apparently, right where we are there is a weak spot.

They have V220s, and my brother has a V505. After we kept having trouble with dropped calls and poor reception at home, my parents were able to buy two V551 from Cingular for a good price. The phones are apparently unlocked, as the ATT SIMs work fine in them.

I have heard that the V551 has poor battery life.

One of the reps at a store suggested we consider Nokia, as they have stronger reception and incredible battery life. I have heard of people charging only every five days or more, despite heavy usage!

What do you all think might be a good phone? We thought of getting four new ones. my parents are not heavy users. I like that Nokias are much easier to unlock, as it would be nice when we travel. Although, I could always keep a 551 for that use. I already have the desk charger and a second battery for my V505, which is nice.

I looked at the Nokia 6230. I like that my Motorolas are quad band. Would I sacrifice much by going with a triband Nokia instead?

I like small phones, but key is strong reception and good battery life. Cameras, etc., are not as important.

I would love your advice!

Nokia's are known for there better Rf over any other phone & anyone of them would be a good choice, The Moto 505 & 551 as well as the 220 seem to be the better models in the Rf department.
If your in a fringe area, then Nokia would be worth trying to see if it helps especially for your family in Buffalo, Philly should not be as bad coverage wise, but again, Nokia would improve your reception as long as there is a signal to be had.

One thing to think about is that if your in a weak area with a Moto V551 (not 180 or 220) you could connect an external ant to it to gain reception.......Cingular has a new samsung (p207?) which looks like a great phone minus BT.....
