HI folks I need help to build wireless office network. History: My office is three floor building, length from west side to east side is about 150meter and total users to connect AP are around 20 (10 is ok). I want to build wireless network which is connect to internet and clients connect each other through Access Point and use internet using that AP (AP connects to router). I used Linksys home AP. The users same room with AP are connected to AP and Internet. But other users far from AP and other room users could not connect to AP. Help: Normally, How many user can connect to AP same time ? What kind of AP I need to use when I build office wireless network ? How all user can connect to AP same time and how to choose AP ? Can you give me AP name or brand which is good output power or long range or AP which is could connect multiple user ? |

Linksys is a good and affordable router. Cisco is more expensive, but has more features suited for office enviornments. Avaya/Proxim and 3M are also good AP's and suited for office nets. Keep researching and reading. Sounds like you are kind of new to wifi. There's alot of things to consider before setting up a wifi network for a small office.

I agree with RadioRaiders that you don't want a cheap AP intended for home use. You probably want to hire a networking consultant to choose, install and maintain this equipment for you. Preventing interruption of your business and enabling business performance will more than pay for the consultant, given that they are competent and come with good references. Things to consider if your users are spread out are: - Availability of wireless repeaters or "range expanders" from your vendor. Make sure that the repeater allows the same security as the originating AP (preferably WPA2). - The new 802.11n "standard" provides for higher data rates and greater distances from the AP. Although the standard is not yet finalized, interim products are available. - Wireless capabilities of your PCs. You did not mention this. Are they already configured for 802.11n? Are they notebooks (you will need a network card that sticks out of the case), or desktops (network card can be internal)? Hope this helps. SW

To SteveW and RadioRaiders Thank you very much for advises. --------- But I am still investigating how to install/manage/admin our wireless network. I have planned to use 802.11g mode because all user of our company are using notebooks which installed 11g mode. |
