Arrow Want to replace my land line

I live in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
  • I am using Comcast for Broadband Cable Modem Internet access
  • MY PCs are connect to a Netgear, "extended G" type of router.
  • My PC is connected to my router via ethernet (I am right next ot the router, while three of my PCs around the house use wireless access to get into the network and therefore to the Internet.
  • I am sick of having increases in my land line telephone fees and I want to see about totally replacing it.
  • I currently have NO cell phone.
  • I am really confused about the role of Skype, Voip, Vonage, have Phone router that would connect to my Cable/modem/PC/router to replace my phones.
  • I get really confused on how phone calls can get received ?
  • I am very open to suggestions and change.
  • PLEASE help me with a direction on this.

Thanks,

Jon

It's an easy process once you decide which IP service you like. They supply a phone and "modem" that plugs into your computer and incoming calls ring the phone just like the wireline.

I am curious what kind of "increases" you are seeing with Qwest. I've had a wireline with Qwest for 20 years and the price hasn't changed. However I don't use any of their extra features.

I use cell phones to replace some of the wireline features and a "normal" cell account can be as cheap as $30/month. You could avoid the IP phone and just use cellular alone...many people do. Cell phones have free long distance and features. If you want more help in deciding, do a Google search on each technology. You might want to do the math and write down the costs of various choices to help you decide. I have received far more price increases from Comcast than Qwest.

I haven't had a landline in about 7 years. I've only been using cellular phones. With AT&T I get unlimited N&W, Unlimited M2M, (Most of my friends & family are on AT&T). My bill is usually about $100/mo and that includes 3 lines with unlimited internet on the primary line.
