Alright so here's my situation: - I'm Canadian (eh) and moving to the states in a few days for college (i.e. the next 4 years) - All my family and friends are here in Canada - I have an unlocked iPhone 2G - I have already installed Truphone on it which allows me to make voip calls home to canada very cheaply - No data plan wanted - I'm looking for the cheapest monthly plan possible in the New York city area with a decent network - A short contract (with no need to purchase a phone) - Maximum I would like to pay is 40$ Ideally I wanted 'unlimited incoming' but from my research the US doesn't really have this under 60$ PLEASE help me. I'll send you a box of my homemade cookies if you do |

Have you checked out RedPocket Mobile, and/or TuYo Mobile. I hear they are both good for international calling from the US. |

Thanks! But I'm always suspicious of these unknown companies when it comes to reliability AND network. I've decided to just stick to Truphone for my long distance so the problem now is just finding a regular CHEAP/CHEAPEST cellphone plan in New York city that has a good, reliable network. Anyone, anyone? |

Metro PCS should be coming to NYC soon... they are an unlimited minute, no contract carrier (prepaid). There is also T-Mobile-To-Go prepaid which is a good deal for prepaid. Or you could try T-Mobile's FlexPay (if you want a more regular plan). |

Have you considered a FLexPay account from T-Mobile? No contracts are needed but you can get the same calling plans as regular, post-paid T-Mobile users.

There is no catch. It is intended for people that don't want a credit check. If you don't have your own phone already, you will get locked into a contract to purchase a discounted phone. Since you already have a device, you can get in with no contract.

Also check out Centennial Wireless. I am not sure if it is available in NY, but they offer free incoming calls, and incoming texts.
