Hello to all, I am a newbie and hope this thread makes sense to you all. I have a nokia 2285 Tracfone which i purchased in Florida about 4 years ago, it is brand new and now I have moved to Windsor, Ontario, Canada right across the Detroit River from Detroit. I would like to get a prepaid card for this phone, but Tracfone does not work in Canada, but being so close to Detroit I thought that the coverage would spill over to Windsor. Could anyone out there educate me on this, is it possible? Thanks

You may be able to check and see if the phone is connecting to Verizon, even if it is not activated. If the phone is showing some reception bars when you turn it on, enter *#743# (*#SID#). If the display says SID 21, you are connected to Verizon (note the signal bars). Try this in the areas you frequent, and if you still get SID 21, go ahead and activate the phone online, using a Detroit zip code. Since the phone has never been activated, you will get the introductory 20 units to play with, before having to purchase a card/PIN. Good luck.

I wouldn't necessarily go by whether it says roaming, it may have had an Alltel PRL installed at manufacture. As a matter of fact, any new CDMA TracFone should show roaming, because TracFone would not be sure which SID to program, before the phones ship out to stores. Also, they would display a date of 01/01/2001 if it had never been activated, or if it had, but later was deactivated. Anyway, what SID number does it show? If it is 21, you will still be able to activate it on Verizon (Detroit).

Doesn't look like Verizon. I don't think you will be able to use that phone, in Canada.
