How about this... Nothing is ever 100% safe. Take water for example. You cannot live without it, yet you can drown in as little as a few inches of it. -Jay

What "wireless" are you referring to? WiFi? 3G? Bluetooth? 3G is pretty tough to crack, it has good encryption, plus 3G scanners are not so commonly available. WiFi is easy to crack if you use WEP or no encryption. If you use WPA2 with a good, unique password (ex: !eiUj49&rTz1@5Qw) , you're pretty safe, as "brute force" ie: repeatedly guessing the password, is the only way to crack it. I don't use Bluetooth, but I think the encryption is something similar to wifi, or maybe weaker? Fixed-line DSL isn't that safe and can be hacked into also by the way PS-I hope you have a firewall and anti-virus enabled? If you go to the wrong web-site or download the wrong program, your PC can be hijacked, regardless of if you connected by wireless or fixed-line access

Sure. I hear from what I would consider one IT expert that they use wireless, but they are safe because they know their stuff & from another that they use a cable because It's safer. I think Radio has done a good job of pointing out why one might be considered safer than the other, for instance connections usualy on full time with cables, & detailed the safety issues very well.

thanks jay. radio.. I'm not sure what you mean by the sounds ficticious part, I'm disappointed if that's how it comes across. I traveled directly through countries South from Finland to Poland quite quickly on foot until I recieved frost bite injuries in Poland which took a long time to heal & I was stuck there about a year in total. I finished up running out of funds for what was intened to be a pilgrimage to Israel & coming home. It's a long story & I understand if you haven't seen it all, but I put what evidence I have in a link at the bottom of the right hand menu. There have been security Issues along my way but at the moment it's my home connection I'm interested in.

...anyway, if you plan on taking on the mafia, I'd look into using proxies when contacting them or their sites, so they can't track your IP address. Some very basic info about you can be found just by clicking on their websites, for example, have a look at my site (don't worry, I won't use the info to track you, just to show you how easy it is!) RadioRaiders System Check I don't know much about proxies, but you can google it, or have a look here: Proxy Ring Top Sites - Rankings - All Sites If you are taking on the mafia, wifi security would not be at the top of my list, as they have to be pretty much right outside your door for them to tap it.
