I'm a new member and not sure how to search yet. I would like to know what is considered the best cell booster for Verizon on the 850 band. I have looked at the wi-ex zbooster 500. Any others to check? We live in Nth. Illinois farm country. Thank you and sorry if I posted in the wrong forum. APC |

I have seen a few "booster" threads around here. To search for them click on the "Search" button, then choose "Advanced Search" under the "Search Forums". and use "Booster" in the keyword search, you should get some useful posts. Good luck.

Thanks Eric, We are down in a valley. In order to get any signal we need to go outside to a spot on the deck and stand perfectly still. Not bad on a nice day but the rest of the time...... We would like to have a good signal inside to take advantage of the Verizon Internet card. We can get one or two bars which made me think the zbooster etc. might be the way to go ?? APC |

You will probably be better off with a product from Wilson or Cyrfe.

First, on a digital phone, "bars" are not showing you signal strength, but rather available bandwidth. To get a read out of signal strength, you would need to put your phone into service mode and use the negative dB reading to determine what signal strength you are getting. typically, -100 dB or less will be too little to make a call, and more then -80 dB will give you adequate signal strength. Check out the forums on your phone model to find out how to put your phone into service mode. With your phone in service mode, you will be able to see which tower(s) your reaches. I'm dealing with a similar problem in rural TN right now. Our site is in a valley and only our plant is there, thus we have too few people to get a tower. Our solution is to build an antenna tower with a directional YAGI antenna and a repeater (powered). Our problem is worse than yours, snce we have no signal - as opposed to a weak signal like you have - in our plant. You would want to locate the antenna/repeater at the spot on your farm with the best signal. Siince the repeater needs power, this may mean a compromise location to minimize costs. As a general rule, higher is better. Note that a YAGI will be highly directional. Your best solution may be a lower gain non-directional antenna, particurly if you have multiple towers in your vacinity. I hope this helps. |
