Me too!!! All but one of about 7 GSM phones are unlocked. It's fun being able to switch phones between lines on a whim. This helps me fight the urge to get a new phone. I have more than I can handle as it is.

truly...

being able to switch back to an old Nokia 6030 or Motorola V180 or even a Samsung D807 is enough to satisfy my cravings for new phones most of the time. of course i think ill pull my old 8525 out of retirement not that this area is about to be 3G!!

Just wondering (on average), how long a phone would last in your possession before you'd have to get a new one?

Me, I still have my 1st phone, for the last 1˝ years, an LG AX4270.
I guess it all depends. My current phone I've had since January of 2007 which has a two year agreement attached to it. The phone I had before that was unlocked and not related to the carrier and I had that phone for almost five years and only because it did everything that I needed it to do and did it well. I may not be the most high-tech user either since all I care about in a phone is its functionality i.e. to be first and foremost a phone and have good phone qualities such as good audio performance, good RF and good battery life. The other things such as a display with over a million pixels isn't something that I really need. Truth is that this decidedly older handset (Nokia 6310i) that I still have and use in a base station as my home service with another number is superior in many ways to my fancier Nokia 8801 whose display is harder to read outdoors in full sunlight, whose ringer is harder to hear in a noisier environment and whose battery can last almost a full two weeks on standby without a recharge. It's decidedly "clunky" looking and at least an inch taller than many current models but as a utilitatiran phone it just cannot be beat.

I wonder how time affects phones,
even if phones are kept in near-perfect condition,
eventually would the transmitters inside lose performance and ability to work at all?

For example (in electronics),
just a few months ago, I bought an MP3 CD player from Wal-Mart
and put an MP3 CD in it and played it non-stop for a month, and left it alone on random
(for my FM transmitter around my house).
After a month, the CD player just stopped working for no reason, and I didn't even touch it all month,
and it was still in like-new condition.

Similarly with cell phones (well I know some are made better than others),
The same can happen with cell phones, they'd wear themselves out eventually, right?
(but hey I guess some analog phones 20 years old would still work on an analog signal .)

The only exception to that was when I ditched the Moto V710 for the E815 when it first came out. That old E815 finally died about a month ago and I had to replace it, but the sad part is that I went to the VZW store and picked out the RIZR Z6 because it was the phone I disliked the least out of everything Verizon had. I guess I've just become jaded in my old age or something, but it did seem odd getting a new phone and not being happy about it.
Lol. Well I have cut back significantly on how many phones I have bought. I have also finally found a phone (Treo 755p) that I am happy with. But some of the times I switched I was within my 30 days so it seems like I have had a lot of phones. A few times it does seem like a few days, but most of the time it has been a few months. I decided to chose about a year since I tend to get bored with phones fast and I have been better about not buying a new phone every few months like I used to. The only bad thing is that I have had to pay full retail a few times in order to satisfy my phone addiction.

LOL, 2006 was my phone buying spree year... I upgraded in the spring to a LG CU320, took it back to the store after 26 hours, got a Moto V3. That year I also purchased outright my iPAQ hw6515, Motorola A845, and a second Motorola V551. That was 5 phones purchased in 1 year! I'm sure that some, like Charlyee can top that though.

Interesting so was mine, yes I can top you but not by that much though. I had the 6682, got the QTEK 9100, went back to another 6682. Then got the 8125 for a day, then went to the PEBL, then the 6131 and then the Blackjack.

I apparently wait two years and then I get two.

I still have and regularly use my original phone, however. It is my prepaid SIM's home.

My buying spree was between 2005 and 2007. Of course having multiple carriers lends itself to this. I am slowing down, but it's hard because phones are so darn CL!

Lol... If prepaid weren't as cheap, I'd only be using one carrier versus the 3 I use.

When any of our phones has broken, it is replaced. I don't buy to get the latest since most often new models have glitches.
