All of the analog belongs to AT&T as it has both 850 bands in Jacksonville. at&t analog is supposed to be available there.... unless it's blocked by Verizon there. Hmmmmm

Although my VX3300 has an ancient PRL from 2006, the phone was abl to acquire the AT&T analog (SID 1155).

Yeah the e815 is digital only even though it is considered an older model. v710 was last great moto trimode.

This morning, in Jacksonville Beach,I was briefly able to connect to at&t analog (SID 0075) with my Verizon v710. However, I tried setting that phone to "Analog Only," a few minutes later, and could not connect.

Where in "the Sunshine State" are you located, Quint?

BTW, I thought SID 1155 was U.S.Cellular.

[quote=Analog man;

2. im possitive there will be analog still in waste land areas because there is no point of upgrading them when there few people that will use it, and the people who do are often spread apart. as we should know an 800mhz fequency will travel farther than an 1900mhz one, assumming they have the same situations (hills, weather, cellphone quality, line of sight, and so on)

i'll add more later[/QUOTE]

The reason why I dont think this will happen is with Alltel, for instance, all the Analog for the west has a separate switch. There is little reason to keep a whole switch going for a few analog sites.
I really hope they do keep it going in rural areas. And along the coast so people far out on boats have coverage. But I doubt they will

These companys have usage stats on all these sites. They know what is best for the public and they know whats best for their pockets.
At first Alltels plan was to start cutting the number of analog channels back until the site was totally cut off. They were going to monitor customer complaints and turn it back on if people biched enough.
Then they gave that up and just set a turn off time.
There are still 6 analog only sites in this area I know of today. They better get busy adding digital.
What it will take is people complaining to the fcc.

I highly doubt that ALLTEL, or any company for that matter would turn off analog where there is no digital. That would make no sense whatsoever. Just within the past month or two, ALLTEL has added CDMA to ALL cell sites in my state, getting ready for the AMPS sunset date, I am positive the same will happen in all areas before the AMPS network is shut down.

I am in Tallahassee.

SID 1155 belonged to USCellular.... but they sold off the TDMA/Analog sites and customers (in Northern Florida/south Georgia) to AT&T Wireless back in 2004. If I'm not mistaken AT&T has the A side and ALLTEL has the B side in Tallahassee.

I dont think that any company is going to go thru the trouble of vacillating over turning on/off analog. They are tird of supporting multiple technologies, especially when there are no users on analog/TDMA nor revenue.

I didn't know that there is a patch of analog only not too far from me; I dont know who owns it (ALLTEL or AT&T). But this analog patch is located in a national forest (with almost 0 population)... so I'd be surprised if anyone upgraded that area ... this area will probably have no service after the sunset date (no later than 3/31 if ALLTEL owns it, earlier if AT&T owns it). Time will tell, though.

I dont think that Alltel has any service in Oregon or Washngton State... If anyone gets an analog signal in these areas, maybe it's from Unicel or USCellular.

Yes they do claim that and they do.

The reason they are not in those states is because they don't have a license there right now. Just like a lot of other companies don't have networks in Montana other states etc.

If they shut it down all at once the call centers would probably be overloaded. Not to mention this is a pretty ambitious time table seeing how may analog only towers they still have out here. They have added digital to 1 tower in the last 2 years, now they are going to add digital to the 8 that are still analog in the next 7 months? ....whatever....

Wrong- ALLTEL's claims as to having the "nations largest wireless network" is based on the fact that the native ALLTEL network covers more square miles of the U.S. than any other carrier.
"largest" network claims are based on different things, depending on which company claims to have the largest network:

ALLTEL: Largest network by square miles covered.
AT&T: Largest network by POPs covered.

Both claims are either just as valid or just as invalid.
